ASPLUND - CARPET COLOUR GUIDE.......................................................................
ASPLUND - CARPET CARE/ MAINTENANCE.............................................................
Founded in 1990, by brothers Michael and Thomas Asplund, Gallery ASPLUND was exhibiting furniture as art objects and in limited editions. With constant collaborations with designers and artists the gallery soon became a stage for contemporary Art and Design. These collaborations resulted in the seed for ASPLUND’s range of furniture, carpets and other contemporary design pieces; ”Edition ASPLUND ” in 1995 the gallery moved to larger premises at our current location, Sibyllegatan 31 Were we still are located today, The since then Creative Director Sandra Adrian Asplund, joined the company at the same time and today the Stockholm house consists of ; A furniture and carpet brand, B2B dept, Interior & Design Studio, web shop and a curated multibrand Store that also serves as our Showroom. With constant influences by literally meeting the end customer, and through our interior architect team’s challenges, we learn daily what is needed in our homes and spaces. Nature, craftmanship, materials and techniques combined with tradition have always been in focus and our key inspiration. This together with the knowledge that natural materials both feels vivid and changes gracefully over time, has contributed to the ASPLUND approach of design. Over the years ASPLUND’s signature style has shown the world that Swedish minimalism can be warm and elegant. We work to create design classics that can be passed on for generations.
Today ASPLUND is an internationally acclaimed design establishment, which has contributed significantly to the idea of contemporary Swedish design. ASPLUND Collection, created in collaboration with renowned designers, can be found in homes, hotels and public spaces globally. Today ASPLUND is represented at retailers worldwide. The rest is both history, the present and hopefully the future.
The ASPLUND Carpet Collection was born out of a dream to follow our concept and expand our existing collection with a high quality carpet range. A mix of international and Swedish traditions and, at the same time, using old techniques combined with modern patterns and design for a contemporary style.
We like our carpets to be stylish and durable enough to be passed on for generations and therefore only the finest materials and techniques are good enough. A high quality carpet is easier to maintain and will last through the different periods of life. Our carpets are woven, knotted or tufted by hand and by skilled craftsmen. Handcrafting makes each rug unique, like a piece of art. We use superior quality New Zealand wool as primary material. The wool is rich in natural fats that give the carpets a beautiful luster while also providing good protection against stains. We also combine our wool with Tencel in some of our designs, for a characteristic look and feel.
The first carpets we produced were unique pieces made together with Swedish artists and designers. Followed by a higher demand we developed several new carpet icons like the Crux, the Convex and the ”O”, just to mention a few. We collaborate with international as well as Swedish designers such as Marc Newson, Piero Lissoni, Tom Dixon, Thomas Sandell, Jonas Bohlin, Claesson Koivisto Rune and Broberg & Ridderstråle.
We have been producing our beautiful carpets working with the same family-owned factory in India for over 30 years. It is a factory that deeply cares for its employees and their families. Here everything is made by hand; From the wool dyed and then tufted, knotted or woven by hand into beautiful carpets using the finest yarns and techniques.
/The ASPLUND Family
If you are on the lookout for something truly unique, our carpets can be custom made to suit your individual preference. We are happy to adjust the shapes, sizes, patterns and colours of our designs to complement your home, office or public space.
The beauty and durability of a hand knotted rug is beyond compare. We offer 4 different qualities:
1. INDO NEPAL – PLATINUM 8/40 (75% New Zeeland wool, 25% Tencel™) – Our most exclusive hand knotted rugs. They are labeled with a platinum coloured leather label. These rugs have the most dense knotting, about 122 000 knots per m² and are highly suitable for applying a design or pattern. Pile height is approximately 13–15 mm.
2. TIBETHAN THIN – Made slightly thinner than the Tibetan and with a shorter pile. It is made from either 100% New Zealand wool with a cut out pattern or a pattern in a Tencel™/wool blend. The blend gives the carpet a beautiful luster and shine. Comes in 70.000 knots or 92.000 knots depending on design.
3. SUMAK – An ancient knotted technique with a braided look and a raised pile pattern. 100% wool (New Zealand and fine Indian wool mix) is used.
4. A-KNOT – Made with medium-sized knots (very much like the Tibetan Thin knot), in 100% Indian wool.
5. HANDLOOM - Easily explained as a mix of a knotted and a weaved carpet, it will have its own chapter on page 16 . Since our hand knotted rugs are made to order we are flexible with sizes.
Calculate the square meter (m²) like this:
Rectangular: width x length = m²
Round: radius x radius x 3,14 (pi) = m²
Our hand knotted rugs labeled Platinum, with a mix of 75% New Zealand wool and 25% Tencel™, are our top of the line rugs in the ASPLUND Carpet Collection. Indo Nepal 8/40 its a fine knotted rug with a delicately cut pile. Indo Nepal is also available in one, monochrome, colour.
PLEASE OBSERVE: For customer size do not forget to take into consideration that the pattern will be scaled to size or repeated. Sizing is to be confirmed with ASPLUND pre-order.

This rug is a hand knotted Platinum Indo Nepal, one of our finest rugs. A hand knotted base in one-colour-wool with flower petals in a Tencel™-mix where some of them have an elevated pile to enhance the feeling of real flowers.
The Fleur rug was designed to give the classic flower pattern a modern take. Inspired by the floors of a flower shop, where a bunch of different flowers were thrown from a high ladder onto the floor, creating a realistic, one of a kind, beautiful pattern.

This year, we are introducing a new carpet quality, HANDLOOM. Our Creative Director, Sandra Adrian Asplund, has specifically worked on a quality wool blend that we have found missing in our own interior projects and also requested by our customers. It meets our needs for quality, appearance and functionality. Here, we have chosen to develop a seemingly simple addition to the collection. A thin but luxuriously soft and durable, yet lively knitwoven carpet.

Hand tufted rugs should not be mixed up with machine-made tufted rugs. Hand tufting is a traditional method, which requires a high level of craftsmanship. Our rugs are entirely made by hand: the yarn is hand dyed, tufted by hand with a small mechanical tool and finally sheared, using hand held scissors. No electricity is used.
Our hand tufted rugs are available in different shapes and measures. We have a wide range of different designs and patterns and also a high availability for customers to order other sizes.
We use 100% wool (New Zealand and fine Indian wool mix) and Tencel as primary bases for our tufted rugs. This wool is rich in natural fats that give the rugs a beautiful luster while also providing good protection against stains. Tencel is a natural fiber from fast growing forests and is 95% bio degradable. Our tufted rugs have either 100% of one material or a mix of wool and Tencel named as woolsilk, depending on the choosen design. Please see information on every rug separately.
The pile height is approx 1,7-2 cm and the weight is approx 3,5 kg/m². Unlike the 100% wool, the pile of the Woolsilk rugs are lightly rough cut.

A series of hand tufted rugs in geometric shapes.
When designing these rugs Piero Lissoni had the transition spaces in mind; The spaces that did not naturally have a given position for a rectangular or round carpet. He wanted to twist our perspective and let us perceive a room from a new angle and with an open mind. These rugs have been proven more utile and have become one of our most popular rugs. They really make a homey rug - like an island - in those difficult spaces.
Carpet colour guide at page 62. Customer size on request. Please note that the measurements are approximate as corners are rounded.
By Marie-Louise Hellgren 2018
The Wedge rugs are made of either 100% Tencel™, 100% wool or woolsilk. They are available in two colours set schemes: Neutrals or Blues. Please note that Tencel™ without the support of wool will lie down and appear paler after sometime of usage. The colours do not fade even if it may have the illusion of such. A mix of 50% wool and 50% Tencel™ will balance the pile and make it stay in shape.
Geometric patterns have been a recurring item throughout Marie-Louise Hellgrens designs. Wedge is no exception, however, there is a subtle twist to the patterns. If you take a closer look you may find small spontaneous variations to the hand-sketched geometric designs. For Marie-Louise it is always important that her work includes subtle energy that, at a first glance may look symmetric, but then surprises you with something new every time you look.
Please note that we also have a customization version of Wedge; Wedge 2, which you can find on the standard tufted rugs.
Standard size:
100% wool or 100% Tencel™ 160 x 240 cm
Please note!
Tencel may be perceived lighter than a 100% wool carpet.
PLEASE OBSERVE:
For Wedge Neutrals the pattern can be enlarged in a repeat of approximately 16 and 8 cm. Wedge Blues has a fixed pattern. The width can be enlarged in a 8 cm repeat. For a length more than 240 cm, a new design has to be made by our Studio.

OBI is made of 100% wool (New Zealand and fine Indian wool mix) The idea for OBI developed during a three months long residency in Japan during 2015. Färg & Blanche took inspiration from the Japanese Geisha Culture and all the knots and rope bindings they saw in their clothing. ”We wanted to give the carpet a three-dimensional effect, an organic shape on a flat surface”.

The inspiration of the Aurora rug was the designer Gabriel Tan´s fascination of the Northern lights. For him the aurora is like the holy grail, despite a few trips to the far north it always escaped him. The designer experimented with different colour variants of the aurora such as purple and bright green, but decided on a more classic and warmer palette more suited to the home.
The Aurora rug is made of a wool and tencel blend and looks just as good on the floor as on the wall.
Pattern only in one set colour scheme, base can be alternated.

Our handwoven carpets are made manually by skilled craftsmen on traditional flat looms in small villages along the Ganges River in India. The different looks are defined by the different wool qualities and patterns woven into or stitched onto them.
The Kelim carpets, which are woven with a warp in wool, have a shiny and fat wool base. They are mad we with traditional techniques of Anatolian origin.
The Dhurrie carpets are also made in a traditional nomadic way, but in contrast to the Kelim carpets they have a warp in cotton. The base of the Dhurries also feel a bit stiffer.

our colours have been updated and upgraded for 2024 and are now comparable with the universal ARS carpet colour system. They are shown in pom-poms or on demand in 27x27 cm tufted samples.
These samples visualize a few colours (from our standard colours) for comparison between different materials for the same colour. The texture and colour can be very different.
The woolsilk gives the pile extra lusture and is a bit rougher cut. This mix is available in all our standard colours except for White 01 and the ”Naturals” colours.
Seen on tufted samples in 100% wool on the right side compared to woolsilk (50% wool & 50% Tencel™) on the left side.
The colours may vary slightly as the wool is dyed by hand.
100% New Zealand natural yarn. For woven qualities and selected designs.
Please note that the colours shown on the screen might not be identical with the actual colour.
Please always ask for updated pom pom swatches if you have any concerns regarding colours.
Natural Dark Grey is dyed on natural white yarn.
In general, the life length of a carpet is mainly based on 2 things:
1. The technique and yarn quality. 2. How you take care of it.
A high quality carpet regardless of technique and quality, shall be maintained with stain removal, whipping and vacuuming regularly.
Wool fibres will come of the first months, speed up the process by vacuuming it regularly. Use brush out only once or twice, then without brush to preserve the pile.
Instant stain removal – use a damp lukewarm natural cloth with a tiny bit of wooden soap water, preferably the yellow kind to avoid bleed. Dab the stain until the stain is gone. If you need more water, do use a towel under the rug/carpet to make sure that it does not go through to the floor. Rinse the cloth and finish off with a clean damp cloth. Blow dry the wet spot with a hairdryer (medium heat, minimum 30 cm away from the pile).
For oil stains we recommend you to use - Cornstarch, baking soda or talcum to absorb the oil for 15 minutes. Vacuum the powder off. Blot with a damp soap water cloth to rinse the oil and powder further. Finish with a damp clean cloth. Be sure to never rub on an oil stain since it will just push the oil further into the yarn fibers.
Fine fibres will come of the first months, speed up the process by vacuuming it regularly. Use brush out only once or twice, then without brush to preserve the pile.
Stains on silk or Tencel rugs should preferably not be removed with too much water. Try a slightly lukewarm damp cloth on a small part of the rug/carpet to be sure of the result. For severe stains; Pour some baking soda on the stain, let stay 30–60 minutes, then vaccum over it. For odor removal spray lightly with a mix of water and clear vinegar. Wipe/dab off carefully after a couple of minutes. Never use hot water on silk or tencel, it will destroy the fibres.
Do not wait too long to take your rug/carpet to the dry cleaners if needed. If you have ingrown stains they will be difficult to remove. Always wash at a professional carpet cleaner. A good cleaner knows which rug/carpet would be water washed or dry cleaned, flat cleaned or cleaned hanging. Make sure that the label always stays on for the cleaner to have the yarn and manufacturing quality.
Avoid to bring your rug/carpet to the cleaner too often though. Instead, take good care of it so you do not have to. A hand tufted rug/carpet may for example risk having the backcloth damaged if washed too often.
An old northern tip is to put your rug/carpet upside down in the snow during winter. This is really good for the carpets in general but shall not be made on the ones with strongly contrasting colours. And please note, tufted rugs shall only be turned and whipped in the snow shortly, otherwise if really cold outside it may break the backing cloth and glue.
• Never use chemicals on your rug/carpet.
• Rotate your rug/carpet once in a while so it will be worn evenly and to avoid direct sunlight shadings.
• We provide general carpet care advice, always check the separate carpet or advice a professional carpet cleaner.
• Stain removal methods is depending on which type of stain it is.
We reserve the right for any printing errors and changes without prior notice.
