ASPLUND - MATERIALS
The ASPLUND range and concept is all about tactility and through combining different materials together we want to create a balanced “soft minimalism” where the feeling of the touch of the surfaces should be responding to the true material. The chosen colours and nuances in the materials and finishes are carefully chosen to enrich both materials as well as the product. We are also very happy to be able to give our customers the possibility create a customized piece of ASPLUND furniture.
ASPLUNDs’ chosen materials and finishes:
VENEERS IN OAK AND ASH
In general we use two types of veneer; On tabletops we use a beautiful handcut veneer and for cabinets a smoother more streamlined veneer. For darker stains we use ash veneer as base material. Our oak and ash veneers are FSC-certified and sourced within the EU. Every piece is unique in its own and is pressed on top of a MDF-Plus or plywood which is then treated with a tinted oil wax. (Oilwax without top coat should be maintained, read more about this in our maintenance/care guides, page 80).
Tabletops (dining) are coated with a polyurethane layera and desktops are as standard treated with an oil wax. The Polyurethane makes the surfaces less delicate when used daily as it is more resistant to water, stains and UV-radiation.
SOLID WOOD
Our solid wood is FSC certified and sourced within the EU. Solid wood is a natural and living material. We love to use solid wood for its strength, quality, strong character, and unique grain and colour. Generally we treat solid wood treated with a sustainable oilwax if nothing else mentioned.
LACQUERED MDF
Our EU-sourced MDF+ is FSC ,PEFC-certified and Svanmärkt medium density fibreboard. The density is approx. 760-800 kg/m3
Our matte-lacquered MDF have a triple applied durable water based lacquer.
Some products, where extra durability is required, such as veneer dining table tops we add a polyurethane lacquer. Since Jan 2022, our SNOW and FRAME series are coated with a more sustainable water-based laquer and it contains a cross-link formula that makes it more dense, durable, has a higher viscosity and are more resistant to liquids as alcohol, and coffee than an acid-based lacquer.

The metal is lacquered with a smooth powder coating in the ASPLUND-colours. The powder process is different to wet coatings since it melts onto the metal where it hardens and protects.

GLASS: CLEAR, LACQUERED OR TINTED
Tops on LUC sideboards and TATI coffee tables.
Clear glass is a 4 mm hardened clear glass with a slight phase to protect its corners and edges. The coloured glass actually has a lacquered MDF board as a base with a clear glass on top. if there is the demand for a pure white glass, there is a special “opti white” glass that can be ordered. Tinted mirror glass we use for OTTO mirrors and also for special orders for TATI tables in Bronze.
STONES
Carrara Marble, Nero Marquina, Pietra Grey, Elegant Grey, Jura Limestone and Valverde as tops to tables, cabinets, consoles, and coffee tables. Our stone tops are sourced within the EU. They are polished (honed) to result a smooth matte appearance and are coated with a Nano finish which makes them more resistant to grains and stains plus that it makes the surface softer and smoother. NANO finishes wears off after use and shall be maintained. Either with an Alkemi nano spray or a natural stone wax cleaning kit.
Please note! All stones are taken from nature and every stone is different. Small tarolis, fossils, darker och brighter colour parts, general colour differencies, small metal stains and crack-like lines are as they are and a proof of authenticity.
COLOUR CORE LAMINATE
Table tops like Bermuda for example.
Carrara Marble is the ultimate classic type of marble that is quarried in the Carrara region of Italy. It has been used for centuries in art and architecture, and is prized for its unique veining and fresh white color. We use a B-C assortment quality which have reference to the clarity of the white.
Jura Limestone is a beige and grey limestone with no red tones and quarried in Germany. It is renowned throughout the world for its enduring beauty with encapsulated “Ammonite” fossils dating back to the Jurassic period, hence the name “Jura”. Lines and metallic shimmers can also be a part of the characteristic pattern.
Pietra Grey is a calcite marble. A warm grey base that is calm and solid in appearance . The pattern alternates between very fine snow-white streaks and barely perceptible linear slate-colored glazes. The surface is silk matt honed.
Although Elegant Grey is a light grey marble quarried in Pakistan, the light grey variations in the stone has an elegant scandinavian look. The natural, non directional pattern is elegant and soft shifting and the surface is silk matt honed.
Valverde is a green marble from India. It is a popular marble due to its unique natural deep green color. The stone has various shades of green tones that appears in veins given it an elegant touch. Valverde has a natural feeling of depth and life.

A full all white Formica laminate with no dark edges. Relatively maintenance-free surface material that has a high resistance to liquids and deeper scratches.

LEATHER: NATURAL, COGNAC, DARK BROWN AND BLACK
The leather we use is a vegetable tanned leather. The natural material, an aniline leather is threatened with wax, which gives an authentic look and patina from its original structure including its original scars, marks and color changes.

ASPLUND - FURNITURE CARE/MAINTENANCE
The best way to keep our furniture in good shape is to following assembly instructions correctly when installing or moving the furniture. Then adjust fittings regularily.
CLEANING LACQUERED SURFACES:
Clean off with a slightly damp cloth or microfibre cloth use only natural cleaners. Do not use too much water, polishes containing abrasives or other chemicals.
CLEANING OIL WAXED WOOD:
Use only natural detergents. Special oil wax cleaners are availablr on the market. Light repair can be needed. Then sandpaper along the wood fibre, wipe it clean then apply a top oil wax .
MAINTENANCE OF WOOD
Wood is a living material, making each part unique. Solid wood, veneer or lacquered MDF can be cleaned with a soft cloth, plain water and soap or mild detergent. Be aware and wipe up liquids on surfaces immediately. With more extensive stains on wood and veneer you can sand lightly with very fine sandpaper in the direction of the wood veins. Note that veneers can be as thin as 0.6 mm.
Wood furniture treated with clear, matte or coloured polyurethane or acid-curable paint should not be sanded since the lacquered surface becomes easily scratched and destroyed. Waxed, dyed or oiled surfaces treated with colour pigmentation can also lose pigments and be affected if an area is sanded or taken care of incorrectly. If sanding surfaces is necessary, please do so carefully and on your own risk or contact a professional carpenter. Sun, moisture and everyday wear affect the natural protection of the material.
We recommend using Osmo maintenance wax regularly and a few times each year to treat and care for our wooden furniture. In case of an accident, we have a small bottle of water-based paint for our painted MDF and wood furniture in all standard colours that you easily can order from us at Asplund, directly online. Carefully read and follow the attached instructions for each treatment and cleaning agent.
CLEANING STONES
Stones are cleaned smoothly with a damp cloth and very mild detergent. Be aware and wipe up liquids on surfaces immediately. Marble and limestone are porous materials and can not handle acidic fluids with a PH below 7 such as wine, fruit juice, carbonic acid,vinegar and acidic cleaners. The acids do not affect the stone’s strength, but causes cosmetic damage. Stones shall be maintained after cleaning with either an Alekmi-nano spray to close the pores of the stone or using a natural marble wax.
CLEANING METAL
Primarily clean metals with plain water and mild detergents and afterward wipe off any moisture so the surface is dry. When brushing and polishing different types of metals, Glanol, Häxans, Autosol or Bistro is recommended agents. Untreated metals should be polished regularly to maintain quality and luster. Metals naturally get a patina over time. Painted and coated metals should not be polished with abrasive cleaners. Carefully read and follow the attached instructions for each treatment and cleaning agent.
MAINTENANCE OF LEATHERS
All leathers are unique and needs to be lubricated regularly with a conditioner, leather oil or leather fat so it does not dry out and to get the longest life expectancy. Wearing, sunlight and fluids affect the natural protection of the leather. Aniline and semi-aniline leather need some more care and maintenance compared to a completely pigmented or protected leather. In case of any stains the material can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth and a special gall or leather soap and then treated with a moisturizing agent. When you lubricate or moisturize a leather upholstery it can become noticeably darker and to achieve a beautiful patina it is important to take good care of the leather. Do not rub during cleaning and never use gasoline and cleaning solutions, alkaline and acidic cleaning agents or abrasives. Carefully read and follow the attached instructions for each treatment and cleaning agent.
MAINTENANCE OF GLASS
Glass should be cleaned with cleaning equipment that is free of, to avoid scratching the glass surface. Only recommended detergents suitable for cleaning glass should be used. Gentle detergents are preferred. Do not clean glass when warm or in direct sunlight. Abrasive cleaners, powder-based cleaners, scouring powder or other strong agents should never be used to clean glass. Carefully read and follow the attached instructions for each treatment and cleaning agent.
