Students will learn to develop creative thinking skills for understanding & creating art. Students will plan and organize work while using the elements of composition. Students will evaluate a variety of subject matter & ideas to communicate the meaning of a work of art. Students will reflect upon the characteristics and merits of their work. Students will learn to perceive connections between the arts and other disciplines. Students will develop an awareness of art as a profession.

Grading Scale Student’s grades will be based on the following for each 9 weeks: PROJECTS 60%, QUIZZES 20%, PARTICIPATION 20% All projects are given a due date and should be turned in on time. Projects drop 5 points each day they are late. These points are taken off the grade you would have received not off a 100. Projects are evaluated on assigned objectives, creativity, originality, as well as craftsmanship. Each student will be required to keep a notebook/journal that can be stored in the art room when not being used. The notebook will include exercises, notes, handouts, research, homework, quizzes, and sketches. Notebooks will be checked periodically to make sure students have all needed information for studying, as well as for info to look back on as they may advance into another level of art. (All grades given on unexcused absence day will result in 69% of grade-WHS policy) The semester grade will be made of the following: Average of each 9 week grade= 75% & Final Exam = 25% The art exam is only required if students miss more than 2 days of class or are failing the course. All students are welcome to take the exam to help their grade!
