Unchecked global warming could cost African countries as much as 6% of their GDP by the end of the century. With 17% of development assistance being directed towards climate action, a lack of clarity on how the promise to mobilise $100bn annually by 2020 will be kept, and spiraling adaptation needs, there is a risk that both adaptation and vital development assistance will be short of the resources required. Climate change is a grave threat to food security. Women are at the forefront of climate impacts, but also lead the fight against hunger. The outcomes of the Financing for Development Summit and the Paris Climate Summit should support Africa’s future agriculture growth and food security, and support women food producers.
