SHIZUTANI GAKKO KEITH VALLER
THE SHIZUTANI GAKKO WAS ESTABLISHED AS THE CENTRE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION BY MISTSUMASA IKEDA, THE LORD OF BIZEN PROVINCE, IN 1670 (KANBUN 10). THE LECTURE HALL WAS COMPLETED BY TSUNAMASA IKEDA (MISTSUMASA’S SON), THE LORD OF BIZEN PROVINCE IN 1701 (GENROKU 14), AND ITS ROOF WITH “BIZEN-YAKI” TILES (POTTERY MADE IN BIZEN PROVINCE) IS STILL BEAUTIFUL. SHIZUTANI GAKKO IS ONE OF JAPANS’ NATIONAL TREASURES.

The beautiful setting of the school house.
The “Bizen-Yaki roof tiles were made in the nearby town of Bizen, world famous for its potteries.
