Hello and welcome to this new edition of Styled. magazine which I am unoffically subtitling, “better together”. Like cake and ice cream (watch the video)! the art of merry making… blog + zine = better together This new change has come from my love for the daily, personal awesomeness of blogging, combined with my love for the incredible editorial abilities of producing a digital magazine. After a year of teetering back and forth it was decided: let’s do something different together! Who says we have to be one or the other? Digital media is free range, so here we go. Blog daily. Styled. magazine every few weeks, in short form. Perfect for inspiration without the overload! Editorial stories in the magazine will be posted in real time on the blog, you can find them by clicking any feature story title. We’ve done a little redesign to allow for them to be pinnable and searchable in the event and DIY project galleries. On the blog you will find the featured stories shared in more detail with personal notes, project instructions and added photos. Styled. magazine will feature new product guides, blogger interviews, party tips and all the same festive editorial content you have come to love. Dig in and enjoy! blessings.

THE ANTLERS LIVE ON!

This winter woodland table is inspired by seasonal elements found in nature such as faux fur, deer antlers, custom plaid fabric napkins and pinecones. We wanted the table to feel fresh and elegant, while still remaining cozy for winter. To pull a theme into the table, we used an antique china dinner set with wintery scenes. The florals were a combination of the color tones & various textured foliage, some of which you can find right outside your front door! Send your guests home with homemade delicacies wrapped in burlap & string to enjoy with a warm beverage!

Ah, our nation’s capitol. What better place to throw a party than the historic city that still has cobble stone streets, colorful buildings and blossoms beautifully in the spring? And don’t think you only have to do a patriotic theme. There are lots of shops that will help you create the fun bash you’re hoping for. Thank you to Lauren O’Neil, a designer and DC resident who shared her favorite picks with me. Local Shops: Fifteen/Eleven Old Town, Alexandria Curated paper goods from the lovely Suann Song + party supplies. Think stripey bags, big balloons, twine and beautiful paper. Baked & Wired Handcrafted, delicious cupcakes baked in small batches in a variety of fun + tasty flavors. Michel Patisserie The place to hit up for delectable and colorful macarons. Old Lucketts Store Vintage and antique décor finds that will give your party that one of a kind look. Eastern Market Hit up this huge indoor market on the morning of your party to get your pick at the freshest produce and flowers in the area.

D.I.Y. 1 Applewood stands by: rebecca beach photography: rebekah j. murray
These easy to make applewood cake stands use only three supplies: applewood, a pretty thrifted plate, and Gorilla glue. Start with a piece of wood that has been leveled. Spread a moderate amount of Gorilla glue over one end, carefully center your plate on top, and place a stack of books on top to allow the glue to thoroughly dry. Use as the focal point on your dessert table, the result is a stunning wintry tablescape!

D.I.Y. 2 Frosted golden bowl by: brittany watson jepsen photography: hilda grahnat
The weather outside is frightful but that doesn’t mean you can’t bring a little ice indoors. Create a papier-mâché bowl by first making a paste. Blow up a balloon then tape it to a sturdy cup. Paint paste onto 1” newspaper strips on both sides then paint it to the balloon. Let each layer dry completely. Create 6-7 layers for solid bowl. Pop the balloon and remove the balloon. Cut the balloon level downt. Spray paint the inside and outside gold and let it dry. With spray mount, spray the outside and then quickly apply Himalayan sea salt. Apply as little or as much as you wish. Apply another layer of spray mount on top to really make it stick. Enjoy!

D.I.Y. 3 Ruffled table runner by: disney, ruffles and stuff
A simple way to center any party table and to make use of those cheap plastic table cloths you can pick up anywhere. Using two plastic table covers, cut a 20" and 15" strip from each one. Lay the 15" on top of the 20" and sew a gathering stitch (strait stitch on longest length) strait down the middle. Repeat for other strips. Gently pull the top thread only to gather all the way down both runners and tie threads. Use the gathering threads to tie the two runners together.

D.I.Y. 4 Geometric garland by: jenny batt, hank and hunt
A simple garland using wood veneer cards you can find at your local paperie shop. Take the wood card and cut an angled line from one corner to the opposite side. Cut the second side of the triangle. You now have three pieces of wood. Using your hole punch, punch a hole about 1/8 inch in from the sides. Thread a needle and string up the shapes one by one in a desired formation. Hang and enjoy at your next bash or as a lovely item to swoosh across your naked mantle.

D.I.Y. 5 Winter wishes by: tina fussell, traveling mamma
As the reality of a new year sets in, grey skies hover above and resolutions are found abandoned, it can be difficult to not get discouraged. Take heart... Celebrate life’s little accomplishments and recieve a quick witted word of encouragement along the way. Download a page of winter wishes designed for you here. Stash them away in a pretty jar to pull out as encouragement is needed!

CREATE YOUR OWN WONDERLAND
Neither snow, high winds or even a lack of cozy winter weather can dampen the celebration of friends when one of them has answered “yes to that most very important question!
I wanted the day to be casual but also a seated event so we created a simple and pretty table filled with white tissue confetti "snow and paper white bulbs potted inside miniature vintage copper cake pans. Simple striped paper napkins were brought into the celebration with a small amount of spray adhesive and sequins. The champagne was also coated in sequins to add a dash of celebratory color to our otherwise white table. Glass plates painted on the backside with gold graphic shapes make an immediate statement as a place setting and the design easily washes off after the party is through. Painting on glass has become one of my new favorite ways to give a festive life to ordinary pieces.
