Appalachian State Men’s Club Lacrosse started practice last monday at Kidd Brewer Stadium. The team is looking forward to competing in a tough spring schedule with 3 games against top 25 teams in the country. App State received 8 votes for the top 25 which gives them the 30th ranked spot in the preseason poll. The men’s team starts the season with away games, with a trip to Charleston to play the College of Charleston and the Citadel. We then get a 3 week break before we head down to Charlotte to play Davidson and conference foe, Wake Forest. March 29th marks the first home game of the spring as we take on Elon at State Farm Fields, before we head down to Statesboro to take on Sunbelt rival Georgia Southern. We finish up the season with a game against UNCC and two home games against Kennesaw State and East Tennessee University. This spring we returned over 25 members and have around 10 new guys coming out to play. This will be a special year stated senior attack Connor New, “ We have a bunch of guys who are willing to buy into the program and who I feel have a lot to bring to the team”. The attack is led by returners Senior Connor New and Junior Sam Honchalk who contributed to over 50% of the team’s points last spring. We also have a strong midfield led by Junior Jonathan Winbush who is an asset on both sides of the field. The defense will be fairly young but will have a lot of energy. Junior Luke Haverstrom is one of the guys who knows the team well. “We have a handful of younger guys that have stepped up and started to be leaders. They come to practice everyday with energy and are competing for playing time every practice.” The team’s goal this spring is to beat division rival Wake Forest and Hopefully secure a spot in the SELC playoffs in Atlanta at the end of april. Appalachian State made an appearance in the playoffs in both 2017 and 2018 but failed to make it in 2019. The team led by alumni Jack Rich is looking to lead the team back to the playoffs.
