Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts is the largest comprehensive design and arts school in the country, built on a combination of disciplines unlike any other program nationally and located within a dynamic research university focused on transformative change.
The Herberger Institute comprises the ASU Art Museum, ASU FIDM Museum, ASU FIDM, The Design School, The Sidney Poitier New American Film School and the Schools of Art; Arts, Media and Engineering; and Music, Dance and Theatre. The Herberger Institute is committed to redefining the 21st-century design and arts school through developing and scaling ideas that strengthen the role of designers and artists across all areas of society and culture, increasing the capacity of artists to make a di erence in their communities.

The Herberger Institute trains more Indigenous and Latino students in design and the arts than any other school in the nation.
We operate across four cities and two states: Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix in Arizona, plus Los Angeles.
Our venues and facilities include the Media and Immersive eXperience (MIX) Center in Mesa, Fusion on First in Phoenix and the ASU California Center Broadway and Grand locations in Los Angeles, all o ering state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. The design and arts district on the ASU Tempe campus features academic buildings, galleries, specialized teaching facilities, rehearsal spaces, concert halls, theatres and more.
The Herberger Institute Creative Economy Hub in L.A. embeds ASU in the heart of one of the world's most important centers of cultural and creative industries; connections include a fellowship program o ered in partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, degree programs in design, fashion, film, and narrative and emerging media, and alumni relations.
The Herberger Institute o ers a suite of transdisciplinary degrees in XRts – immersive media, virtual reality and extended reality arts – and supports BIPOC artists in the field through the XRts Immersive Media Fellowship.
The Herberger Institute is at the forefront of investigating the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence in the creative fields.
The ASU Art Museum is reinventing the modern-day museum by centering art and artists in the pursuit of justice and equity, through socially, politically and environmentally engaged exhibitions by regional, national and international artists.
The Herberger Institute o ers multiple online degrees, including a BSD in graphic design and a Master of Architecture from The Design School, and the School of Art’s online digital photography degree, one of the first online BFA degrees for a studio practice-based degree from a Research 1 university or fine arts college in the nation.

Founded in 1950, the ASU Art Museum has a collection of over 13,000 artworks and operates across two locations.
