Academic Success, Holiday Observances Highlight Final Month of 2016 at ASU-Newport While December was an abbreviated month for everyone at ASU-Newport due to the holiday break, it was a busy month.

In addition to holiday observances of all kinds, ASU-New-

port celebrated the graduation of two nursing classes.

December also marked the end of the Fall 2016 semester.

With the close of the semester, more than 280 ASU-Newport

students were recognized for academic excellence by being named to the Chancellor’s or Vice-Chancellor’s lists. For a complete list of students who were named to the lists and

their hometowns, see page four.

Congratulations to our newest class of Registered Nursing graduates who were pinned Dec. 1 at ASUN’s Arkansas Rural Nursing Education Consortium graduation ceremony!

Our Jonesboro and Marked Tree Practical Nursing programs celebrated their Fall 2016 Capping & Pinning with a Dec. 13 ceremony in Jonesboro.

Congratulations to these students on their accomplishments!

ASU-Newport Holds Holiday Gatherings

Our Hospitality Services students did an outstanding job catering our Jonesboro campus Holiday Gathering Dec. 7. Students, staff, faculty and members of the community enjoyed the delicious food and fellowship in the Fowler Family Hospitality Services Building.

Faculty, staff, students and members of the community were on hand Dec. 14 for ASU-Newport’s Holiday Gathering on the Newport campus.

ASU-Newport’s Marked Tree Holiday Gathering was held Dec. 6. The annual event was attended by many from the community, as well as ASUN faculty, staff and students.

ASU-Newport staff teamed with members of the Iron Mountain Regional Arts Council to sponsor the annual “Breakfast with Mrs. Claus” at the Larry N. Williams Student-Community Center.

Following breakfast, over 40 children in attendance met with Santa and Mrs. Claus and completed a Christmas craft project.

ASU-Newport was well-represented in the Newport and Marked Tree Christmas parades, with ASUN’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter winning first prize for the best float in the Marked Tree parade.

Local citizens were treated to a lively Christmas concert when the ASUN Patron Series continued Dec. 6 with “A Rock & Soul Christmas” with the Memphis-based band G3.

ASU-Newport Announces Chancellor’s, Vice Chancellor’s List for Fall 2016 Semester More than 280 Arkansas State University-Newport students were named to the Chancellor’s or Vice-Chancellor’s lists for academic excellence for the Fall 2016 semester, ASU-Newport announced in mid-January.

To be named to the Chancellor’s list, students must carry a minimum of 12 credit hours, excluding developmental courses, during the semester and earn a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), based on a 4.0 scale.
