Buchman Named Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Arkansas State University-Newport announced in May the appointment of Dr. Ashley Buchman as the college’s Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs. Buchman assumes the Vice Chancellor role after serving in various capacities at ASUN since 2008, most recently as Campus Dean, and Dean of Retention and Student Success. She began her duties as Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs June 1. Buchman earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing, with an emphasis in Management from Arkansas State University in 2006. She earned her Master of Business Administration degree from Arkansas State University in 2007 before earning her Specialist in Community College Teaching, with an emphasis in Administration, also from A-State, in 2010. Buchman earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in 2012 from Arkansas State University. “I am extremely happy to announce the appointment of Dr. Buchman as our new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs,” said ASUN Chancellor Dr. Sandra Massey. “As a member of our staff for many years, she has a unique understanding of the three-campus/one-college concept at ASU-Newport, having helped to manage the Jonesboro and Marked Tree campuses in the past. I am confident that Dr. Buchman has the necessary combination of knowledge, interpersonal skills
and passion for student success to provide visionary and strategic leadership in the area of Student Affairs. She is a talented leader who puts ASU-Newport values first and is genuinely interested in helping our students succeed.” Buchman’s career at ASU-Newport began in 2008 as the college’s Workforce Development Counselor. Later that year, she became the Director of Community Outreach for the Career Pathways Initiative, and was promoted to Director of Student Services in 2009. In 2014, Buchman assumed the role of ASUN Dean of Retention and Student Success, where she oversaw the design, development and implementation of the Center for Academic Retention and Success. Among other notable achievements, Buchman also implemented ASUN’s Early Alert System to improve student retention success and assisted in the design, coordination and implementation of ASUN’s New Student Orientation sessions. Further, she co-authored the college’s 2015-2020 Minority and Retention Report. Adding the role of Campus Dean in 2015, Buchman served as the liaison between ASUN’s Jonesboro and Marked Tree campuses and the ASUN Newport campus. Additionally, she has served as an adjunct faculty member at Arkansas State University since 2010. Buchman also holds certifications as a Title IX Investigator

She is also the recipient of many awards, has been invited to present at numerous seminars and conferences and is a member of numerous professional associations and affiliations. “I am honored to be chosen as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for Arkansas State University-Newport,” said Buchman. “In my various positions at ASU-Newport, I have been privileged to work with students during each stage of their academic career. to collaborate with other divisions to create policies that positively impact students and are sensitive to student issues.” As Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Buchman will provide strategic direction and work collaboratively to support service missions such as student activities, counseling, financial aid, disability services, recruitment, retention, enrollment management, orientation and student development. She will also plan, develop, manage and administer programs and strategies for enrollment management and student affairs that support the college’s strategic plan and mission. Buchman will work with college leadership to develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to recruit, retain and serve ASUN’s vibrant and diverse student body.

GED Graduation Ceremony Held
Lindley Gilliaum Agriculture Planning Grant Coordinator Before Joining ASUN, Lindley worked as an Agriculture Yield Specialist for Dulaney Seed in Clarksdale, Miss. She is a graduate of Newport High School, ASU-Newport and Arkansas State University, holding an Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from ASUN and a Bachelor’s Degree in Plant Science from A-State. Lindley enjoys teaching her three-year-old daughter, Linden, about farming and gardening.

Over 275 Students Earn Academic Honors More than 275 Arkansas State University-Newport students were named to the Chancellor’s or Vice-Chancellor’s lists for academic excellence for
