Army ROTC has provided me with the training and confidence that I need to be successful in my career field. I am grateful to the cadre and my peers for helping me become a better leader. Through my academic experiences at ASU and as a proud member of the Sun Devil Battalion, I am blessed to have the opportunity to pursue EOD School Phase I at Fort Gregg-Adams, VA.”

Army ROTC is an elective curriculum taken along with other required college classes. The program provides students with the necessary tools, training and expertise to succeed in any competitive environment, now and after the military. ASU ROTC has a student services manager to develop and implement innovative success strategies, designed to enhance the academic persistence, progression and degree completion.
The Sun Devil Battalion has close relationships with the ASU College of Health Solutions. Our Tactical Athlete Program trains Cadets how to coach their formation and e ectively develop results-based physical training plans. It compliments the Army’s Holistic, Health and Fitness (H2F) program and allows us to develop leaders that are more physically and mentally fit for the U.S. Army.
The Sun Devil Battalion strives to become masters of the basics in technical and tactical skills related to shooting (marksmanship), moving, communicating and medicating. We do this through realistic training each week during physical training, leadership labs and field training exercises. These unique opportunities, coupled with our world-class cadre mentorship, allows our Cadets to connect and build relationships that help them maximize their potential and “Be All They Can Be.”
Department of Military Science
Founded in 1935, ASU’s Sun Devil Battalion is one of the oldest Army ROTC programs in the nation. Established as the Department of Military Science in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the battalion ranks in the top 10 institutions across the U.S. and commissions on average 50 second lieutenants for the Army service in Active Duty, Reserve and National Guard components each year.
Since 1989 the Sun Devil Battalion has been conferred 5 times with the prestigious General Douglas MacArthur Award for ranking among the top Army ROTC programs in the country, the latest in 2021. In 2023, ASU Army ROTC was recognized with the esteemed 5th Brigade Geronimo Award for Best-Large program in the Southwest region.
Philanthropy fuels possibilities
When you invest in the ASU Army ROTC you are contributing to the support of an Army Cadet’s leadership development experience through academic support, cultural enrichment, physical and mental development. Your generosity will allow the Department of Military Science to fund the participation of Sun Devil Battalion Cadets in events such as the Bataan Memorial Death March, Ranger Challenge Regional Competition and cultural awareness experiences. Your donation also helps alleviate financial hardship for Cadets while in the Army ROTC and helps eliminate debt for Cadets after their graduation and commissioning from ASU. Your investment in our Cadets is an investment in national security for years to come.
