Mathematicians are changing the world. You can, too.
Your future starts here
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines an education in the liberal arts and sciences as “an approach to learning that involves diverse coursework so students develop a range of knowledge.” In other words, a degree in the liberal arts and sciences does not limit you to a specific career – you are free to pursue endless opportunities, having developed critical thinking, communication, career-readiness and other skills.
The mathematics degree program at the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences prepares you for success in today’s job market.
The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences hosts the annual Mathematical, Statistics and Data Science Career Day, where students meet face-to-face with potential employers to learn about internship and employment opportunities.
Students in Research Experiences for Undergraduates participate in practical, cutting-edge research in applied mathematics and computational modeling. Projects include weather and climate forecasting and environmental fluid dynamics; the mathematics of imaging; mathematical models of biological processes, including brain tumors, cellular transport and cell networks; and stochastic processes.
Students will learn from alumni working in different industries about their career paths and from workshops and student panels about applying for jobs, writing effective resumes and successful interviewing.
Mathematics and statistics are foundational for careers in many fields, and graduates go on to work in areas such as research, computer science, law, finance, technology, engineering, health care, government, education, cybersecurity, biostatistics, economics, marketing and sports.

Math gives you the flexibility and foundation for almost any field. … Having a math foundation helps me find a working solution much faster than many of my peers.”
I originally found myself uninterested in any career that I was looking at, as it seemed like it would be the same task every day, which sounded boring. So I chose math as my first degree because it was the thing I was ‘good at,’ and it would provide me a lot of flexibility in my career.”
