The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics defines an education in the liberal arts and sciences as “an approach to learning that involves diverse coursework so students develop a range of knowledge.” In other words, a degree in the liberal arts and sciences does not limit you to a specific career –you are free to pursue endless opportunities, having developed critical thinking, communication, career-readiness and other skills.

The School of Historical, Philosophical and Religious Studies creates opportunities for career development, such as the Undergraduate Research Experience, where students can work directly with faculty on projects that develop students’ research, pedagogical, interviewing and archival skills.

Our school works with local partners to provide students internships and career experience, such as the Arizona History Museum, Tempe History Museum and Arizona Jewish Historical Society.

Over 90% of employers said they prefer to hire a candidate who shows ethical judgment and integrity, intercultural skills and the capacity for continued new learning.

Hannah Johnson graduated with degrees in philosophy (morality, politics and law) and political science. As a student, she interned at the Arizona State Legislature where she served the state senate as a policy intern. Since graduating, she has held numerous positions in the senate and is now a policy advisor in the Arizona Governor’s O ce.

Aubrey F. graduated with a bachelor’s in history and found his way back to SHPRS to earn a master’s in history. As a student, he was hired as a curatorial assistant at Tempe History Museum, where he debuted his own exhibit titled “Tempe Signs” featuring historical signs from the city.

One of the nation’s largest transdisciplinary humanities institutions.

Work directly with awardwinning faculty with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, John Templeton Foundation and John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, among many others.

Advances learning opportunities for students and the community, including Humanities Week and Genocide Awareness Week. Our events host up to 2,000 people annually.
