A FINE SELECTION OF GOURMET ITALIAN CHEESE

La Nosta Storia Our Story

Il Forteto began in 1977 with a group of students and teachers looking to make a difference with the power of education and tradition. With the creation of their cooperative, Il Forteto began crafting cheeses, oils and fruit products in Barberino di Mugello, near Florence, Italy. Co-owning land, they grew their own food, raised sheep, and made small quantities of Pecorino cheese. Today Il Forteto is one of the leading agricultural cooperatives producing quality Tuscan cheeses and specialties which are enjoyed around the world. Il Forteto specializes in crafting pecorino, or sheep’s milk cheese, which is made in traditional Tuscan style and follows centuries-old methods of production. Il Forteto collects over 65,000 liters of sheep’s milk from the Tuscan provinces of Florence, Lucca, Arezzo, Siena and Pisa to be used for the production of their delicious cheeses. Producing more than 30 different cheese products, their cheese portfolio includes, classic D.O.P. Pecorino Toscanos, fresh cow’s milk and Tuscan artisanal cheeses with a new twist such as pecorinos aged in wine or with added flavors.
