Aspern Seestadt The subject of this design is a spot situated in a block F10 in locality called Seestadt Aspern on the edge of Vienna, Austria. My design is situated on the western part of the block. The masterplan of the Seestadt was designed by Gehl architects. Block F10 is situated in an intersection of the green and red strings. Which means on the spot where there is a high concentration of greenery and social life. Green string signifies not only parks, but also streets with an increased presence of greenery such as alleys, front gardens or even a green facades etc. Red string means social life includes active ground floor. Around the centre goes so called Ringstrasse which is a ring road demarcing the city and providing transport, connecting the individual parts. In the centre of location is artificial lake with a newly created promenade.

Object consists of 30 modules of inner size 8,5x7,5m. In each floor there are 6 of them. These modules together creates the main mass of the building. Modules are connected with outdoor porch. The mutual displacement of the masses relative to each other creates a space that is used either in the form of a loggia or as a semi-private space on the porch. Courtyard of all the block is designed by terrain elevation breaks in between which the paths are placed. These paths connects the block with surrounding streets and other blocks. The northern part of the block is sort of cutted by street with active ground floor.

There is a different function in each module on the ground floor. These are mainly functions intended for the inhabitants of the house, such as a yoga studio, a children‘s playroom, a laundry room or a common room for the inhabitants of the house. It is possible to enter the terrace in the courtyard, which has community gardens suitable for growing fruit, vegetables or even flowers. Two modules orientated to the north side of the house are dedicated to commerce and the cafe.

The living part of the house consists of two types of the modules on four floors. Thanks to the sliding partitions/elements, the individual modules can be adapted so that they can be easily made into apartments with either one or two bedrooms. At the same time it is possible to remove partitions and create one large, spacious open space. This concept is suitable, for example, for young people, students such as a form of roommate or for young starting families. The house has 24 housing units of two types for a total of up to 96 people.

The shielding system is made of a trapezoidal perforated sheet metal of white color. It is located on loggias and also on the windows and it is used on the facade as well. This obscures the mass changes between the mutually displaced individual modules and it aligns the entire facade together. The white color creates a contrast between the horizontal concrete gray lines. The shielding panel is mounted on a groove on its top and bottom. It thus offers another layer of variability.
