The Awards are presented by the Association of Illustrators (AOI) in partnership with the US-based Directory of Illustration (DI) and supported by our wonderful partners. This year we are celebrating the incredible resilience and creativity the whole illustration industry has shown during the difficult past year when the world battled the Covid pandemic. Over 5,300 entries were submitted from 82 countries, leaving our international jury with the unenviable task of selecting the winners and shortlist which you see in this catalogue.
But this is not all! Each entry is marked by the jury according to technical excellence, how well it communicates its idea or message, strong use of creative ideas and how it explores illustration as an artform. Submissions can consist of just one image (still or moving), a series of up to five images or a mixture of still and moving images. We mostly show just one visual to represent each project in this catalogue. More comprehensive information for each project, including links to animations can be explored online at theAOI.com/world-illustration-awards Each of the ten categories has one Professional and one New Talent Category Winner and Highly Commended Award.
The jury then selects their Overall Winners from the twenty Category Winners, highlighting the two most impressive works in this year’s awards. In addition, there are four Cross Category Awards to highlight the amazing variety of great work: the DI Award, the SAA Agents Award for New Talent, the AOI Member Award and the Innovation Award.
