Adjustable alabaster slats: an innovation to modulate the light and space of interior architecture In front of a window or between two indoor spaces, on a vertical or horizontal axis, shaped like an aircraft wing or a rectangle, discover a panoply of innovative ideas in this presentation.
Windows equipped with alabaster blinds featuring subtly designed lines become a dynamic space with endless plays of light, transparency and openings.

Sculpted alabaster slats sprang from the imaginations of two visionaries. Atelier Alain Ellouz, an alabaster specialist, and Suntwist, a specialist in prestigious blinds, developed this new concept. Both have a love for stone and for technological challenges.

Alabaster blinds hung indoors must be protected from sunlight, wide temperature variations and bad weather.

A short guide to a sublime encounter and its variations alabaster slats light The natural translucence of alabaster Alabaster slats capture the surrounding light, screening out some of it and reflecting the rest. Alabaster’s intrinsic transparency renders it soft and multifaceted.

The blinds in daytime Alabaster captures the day’s changing light from one hour to the next: > The direct strength of sunrays is softened and redistributed with a new brightness.
> The graphic play of shadow and light
> Daylight’s various tones land and come to life on alabaster as the hours go by.

Blackout curtain
Optional complementary lighting Complementary equipment can be added to the blinds: A white blackout curtain with a row of lights creates a luminous wall behind the blinds. The backlit alabaster makes the room look as though it were in broad daylight. When the slats are closed, the blinds become a luminous sculptural tableau.
As soon as dusk falls, the backlit panel replaces natural light.
The rectangular slats can be equipped with integrated lighting.

Integrated backlighting, invisible technique, magical effect The indoor lighting developed by Atelier Alain Ellouz is a reflecting complex with LEDs in the centre of the alabaster slat. This is an option for rectangular slats.
5000 K°
The combination of a dual source, warm white and cold white, renders a wide range of colours and enhances the stone’s interior designs. The colour’s intensity and temperature are controllable.
6000 K°
Alabaster diffuses light evenly.
Making a set of adjustable alabaster blinds Each set of alabaster blinds is a unique creation for a distinctive space. > The direction in which the slats are installed and their rhythm > The dimension and number of slats > The slats’ length > The metal structure, design and finishes > Motorisation > The backlighting option
Coordination The Atelier Alain Ellouz design office — the aesthetic and technical decision-making centre — works with interior architects, coordinates with the locksmith partner and the production workshop’s technical manager, selects the alabaster to ensure consistency, draws up the plans and carries them out.

The choice of direction, vertical or horizontal, in which to install the slats: a graphic option for the panel’s design
Infrastructure The slats are embedded into a metal track at both ends. The weight-bearing infrastructure’s design is based on the window’s specificities, dimensions and depth. The metal’s finish meets the architect’s specifications. It can be integrated.
The slats’ mobility a demanding technical challenge
Example of how the blinds can be adjusted The adjustment of the slats’ angle gives the blinds lightness. The tilt rods can be motorised. Installed in the rear part, it is quiet and discrete.
Aesthetic requirements Alabaster is mainly white, but there are different varieties. The quarry of provenance, cutting direction and traces of water influence the patterns, tones, transparency and translucence of each piece. Atelier Alain Ellouz chooses only the most beautiful stone. With over 3,000 slabs in stock, we’re committed to ensuring each project’s aesthetic coherence.
The diversity of alabaster
Atelier Alain Ellouz For over 10 years, Atelier Alain Ellouz has created precise, innovative projects with alabaster, a stone of unmatched aesthetic qualities for interior architecture. The adjustable slat continues in the line of high-performance solutions with strong constraints to move mobile panels to decorate façades’ alabaster with natural light. Venetian (horizontal) and Californian (vertical) blinds round out the palette of ways in which alabaster can be integrated into prestigious projects.
Sun Twist SUN TWIST is an artisan-manufacturer specialising in blinds made of noble materials. With a firm command of integration and motorisation, it develops sophisticated lines with leather, rare woods or innovative materials based on natural fibres.
