The Alistair K. Macdonald collection Alistair Macdonald (1880-1948) was a Scotsman whose drawings regularly appeared in British and American periodicals. He produced a number of fantasy drawings in the 1920s for the front cover of American Weekly where he depicted girls as insects, birds and butterflies. He was also a book illustrator, and designed cocktail and dinner menus for the Cunard Line including a magnificent brochure for the Aquatania. He was greatly admired for the delicacy of his line, the way that he depicts movement and the charm and grace of his girls. The collection offered for sale here are mostly pen and ink drawings heightened by watercolour. His wife Alice H. Watson (1896-1984) was also an artist, primarily an illustrator of children’s books. She worked in similar fantasy themes often depicting magical characters in enchanting scenes. The husband and wife team worked closely together, and would often work on illustrations together, some of Watson’s illustrations are also offered for sale here. This collection of drawings by Alistair Macdonald and Alice H. Watson is to be sold by the family. 55. ‡ Alistair K.
