Uzbek suzani, Samarkand, about 1900-1920, worked in bright silks principally in basma stitch on a plum coloured cotton ground, appliquéd pale blue satin ribbon inner stripe, outer border of white embroidered black cotton, four widths joined horizontally, 132in. x 92in. 335cm. x 234cm. Some surface marks or colour run. Hole to one end now repaired with red silk. £60-100 (+18% BP*)

2. Two attractive Afghan red velvet metal thread embroidered dowry cloths, circa 1960s, each 33in. x 27in. 84cm. x 68cm. The dark red velvet ground embroidered in gold coloured metal thread with flowers and foliage with elaborate centre medallions; appliquéd with gold coloured metal thread braid to edges and the inner medallion of one and to the edges and corners of the other and one with brown woollen fringing to all edges. Lot 4 4. Various textiles including a Turkish towel, late 19th century, 41in. x 18in. 104cm. x 46cm. Small hole one end. Fine muslin embroidered with flowers and foliage in pale coloured silks with dark blue details; together with cream net stole embroidered in cream floss silk; black net flounce embroidered with floral sprays with scalloped edge; 82in. x 27in. 208cm. x 68cm. The ground embroidered with a central medallion within a rectangle; wide border of flowerheads and leaf forms and trailing foliage outer border. Collection of seven cushions, comprising four kelim cushions with royal blue velvet backs; a Bakhtiari, flatweave cushion, west Persia, 1940s-50s, with piled details of four ducks and a child; the piled panelled border woven birds, animals and people; olive green fabric back; a Baluchi half khorjin, north east Persia, mid-20th century, with fastening loops at the top, now stuffed as a cushion and a Baluchi balisht, north east Persia, circa 1930s-40s, 3ft. x 1ft. 6in. 0.91m. x 0.46m. Now stuffed as a cushion. Pale camel field woven columns of medallions within a hooked motif border; fastening loops at the top with pastel coloured cotton tufts; the plainweave back woven with bands of ivory scrolling motifs. Lot 10 10. Fine Ottoman velvet ground metal thread embroidered ceremonial cover, early 20th century, 48in. x 46in. 122cm. x 117cm. Few surface marks. The rich chestnut velvet ground exquisitely embroidered in gold and silver metal threads with flowerheads and boteh in the scalloped border with a central medallion of flowerheads., trimmed with a few silver coloured sequins; metal thread fringing and yellow cotton lining. £300-400 (+18% BP*)

Lot 24 24. Indonesian batik hanging, south east Asia, probably first half 20th century, 104in. x 19in. 265cm. x 48cm. Somewhat fragile with splits and tears to sides. Very fine cream cotton(?) ground printed in blacks and browns with gold details depicting exotic birds in flight among fronds and trailing flowers; narrow plain gold border; hanging poles to each end. Provenance: Acquired by the present owner’s parents in Indonesia many years ago. £100-200 (+18% BP*)

27. Silk embroidered antependium, probably north European, 19th century, 75in. x 17in. 190cm. x 43cm. Shattering to the silk ground. The ivory satin ground embroidered in coloured silks with flowers and inscription either side of a central motif of a swan feeding her cygnets in a nest, below a small crucifix. Two children’s national costumes, early-mid-20th century, the first, for a small 3-4 year old child, Portuguese, comprising a white cotton embroidered blouse; red and black felted wool bolero; red felted wool skirt embroidered in silk and wool and with sequin trim; matching small apron and a very small pocket with ties. The second, larger, Swedish, comprising a white cotton blouse with embroidery to cuffs; a dark blue cotton and felted wool skirt with green silk braces, a green silk and floral printed bonnet; printed cotton neckerchief and a black felted wool appliqued pocket with woven ribbon strap. 31. Attractive cope and hood, English, late 19th/early 20th century, 58in. x 123in. max 147cm. x 312cm. max. Seams adrift in places; small darned repairs either side of the hood; other small areas of wear; the velvet rectangular neckband with area. Fabulous damask ‘cloth of gold’ woven with large floral palmettes on a strapwork lattice; the straight edge a band of dark gold velvet embroidered in couched gold coloured metal threads; the silk padded flowers outlined in gold coloured metal threads; the centre holy crown trimmed with facet-cut brilliants; the roundels featuring the crossed axes of Christian martyrdom attributed to St. Matthias, alternating with the lyre; each roundel divided by leaf entwined thorn stems; the hood 19in. x 19in. 48cm. x 48cm. of dark gold velvet exquisitely embroidered in couched gold metal thread, depicting Agnus Dei standing on a mound embroidered with tiny flowers in coloured silks, fringed in gold coloured metal thread and orange silk; both pieces lined with bright orange silk. Overall wear, heavy in places; second and third: two mixed technique khorjin faces, probably south west Persia, circa 1940s-50s, 1ft. 10in. x 2ft. 7in. 0.56m. x 0.79m. Small damages and holes; the fourth and fifth: two Baluchi bag faces, Khorasan, north east Persia, 1ft. 5in. x 1ft. 6in. 0.43m. x 0.46m. Overall even wear, with multicoloured kelim band to top ends; the sixth, an Afshar animal trapping, south east Persia, 11ft. x 4in. 3.35m. x 10cm. Light red field with all over trellised flowers; pale green floral main border and ivory outer guard. Together with a Caucasian banded kelim mafrash end panel, early 20th century, 20in. x 19in. 51cm. x 48cm. Small holes; losses to ends. The geometric bands alternately flatweave and sumac brocaded. All goods are second hand and sold without warranty unless otherwise stated in the sale catalogue or by the auctioneers from the rostrum. The auctioneers undertake that care has been taken to see that catalogue descriptions are accurate and reliable, however these are matters of opinion only and shall not be taken to be statements of fact. 4. If he has bid on behalf of another person, company or organisation he should make this clear to the auctioneer at the time. b) If, and as required the auctioneer at the fall of the hammer the purchaser shall also give his address and/or the address if the principal and/or pay to the auctioneer all or part of the purchase price plus VAT and buyer’s premium. c) Any such payment at the fall of the hammer may be treated, at the auctioneer’s discretion, as a general deposit against all purchases, made by the purchaser on the day. d) All lots must be paid for in cash, or in other manners acceptable to the auctioneers on the day of the sale and before delivery is given. e) Failure by the purchaser to comply with sub clause (a) and (b) shall entitle the auctioneer to cancel the sale and, at his discretion, to immediately re-offer the lot in question for sale by auction. 10. b) If upon resale as aforesaid a lower price is obtained foe any lot that was obtained on the first sale, the difference in price together with all costs and charges attending the resale shall be a debt due from the purchaser in default at the first sale. c) Alternatively the auctioneers may, at their discretion, store the lot and recover reasonable charges for doing so from the purchaser. 16. Rescission Notwithstanding any terms of these conditions if, within 14 days after the sale, the auctioneers have received from the buyer of any lot notice in writing that in their view the lot is a deliberate forgery and that within 21 days after such notification the buyer returns the same to the auctioneers in the same condition as at the time of sale and by producing evidence, the burden of proof to be upon the buyer and if the auctioneers consider in the light of the entry in the catalogue, that the lot is a deliberate forgery than the sale of the lot will be rescinded and purchase price refunded. In the event of a dispute then the matter will be settled by arbitration. 17.
