welcome I am delighted to introduce our Autumn 2014 brochure, which is packed with top-name productions visiting the New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham this season. You helped to make our Spring/Summer season one of the most successful in our history. Make sure you get your tickets before they’re gone! We have now completed auditions for our annual Stage Experience and once again I was astounded by the talent and ability of the 300+ young people who turned out to audition. We are now fully cast for Footloose - so prepare to cut loose with some of the finest young talent that the West Midlands has to offer.

CARTOON CLASSIC COMES TO LIFE!

NEW ALEXANDRA THEATRE PRESENTS STAGE EXPERIENCE 2014

Stage Adaptation by DEAN PITCHFORD and WALTER BOBBIE Based on the Original Screenplay by Dean Pitchford Music by TOM SNOW Lyrics by DEAN PITCHFORD Additional Music by ERIC CARMEN, SAMMY HAGAR, KENNY LOGGINS and JIM STEINMAN An amateur production by arrangement with R&H Theatricals Europe Ltd.

‘One of the most talented teams of performers I’ve seen on any stage’ The Bridge Radio, Annie 2013

Over 130 talented young performers from across the Midlands star in this full-scale New Alexandra Theatre production of the explosive Rock ‘n’ Roll musical Footloose. Featuring classic ‘80s anthems including Holding Out For A Hero, I’m Free and Let’s Hear It For The Boy, Footloose is an electrifying and heartfelt tale of love, loss and the irrepressible spirit of youth.

A musical adventure the whole family will enjoy! Scooby-Doo and the gang are back by popular demand and with even more spooky mystery and fun - this time in the Pyramids. The cartoon classic comes to life! Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Velma and Daphne arrive in Egypt where they must solve the mystery of Pharaoh Hatchepsout’s Pyramid. Easy, you say? Not if the gang has to deal with mysterious mummies plus the wrath of the Pharaoh, who will transform anyone who dares to approach the pyramid into stone! With hilarious physical comedy, popular tunes and special effects, the whole family will enjoy this new episode live on stage.

‘the best musical of the decade!’ sunday times

Music & Lyrics by Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx

Book by Based on an Original Concept by Jeff Whitty Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx

This production is given by permission of JOSEF WEINBERGER LTD on behalf of MUSIC THEATRE INTERNATIONAL of New York

Winner of the Tony Awards ‘Triple Crown’ for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart. Following five years in the West End and sell-out runs worldwide (packed with mischief, bad behaviour and political incorrectness) this hugely entertaining show is hitting the road on a brand new tour! Created by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez (Co-creator of Book of Mormon and writer of the songs for Disney’s Frozen) Avenue Q is an irresistibly charming musical which tells the story of the loveable characters on a downtown New York street trying to make sense of life’s burning issues. Hilarious, cheeky and uproariously entertaining, with a terrific batch of songs performed by a cast of hugely talented performers and puppets, Avenue Q is the musical like no other.

A classic. A landmark. A legend. The Mousetrap is famous around the world as being the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre and now it’s back by popular demand following a record breaking sell out week in 2013. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motives are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner. www.MousetrapOnTour.com

‘TOM STOPPARD’S DAZZLING MASTERPIECE’

the Daily Telegraph

OPENING IN BRIGHTON 2015

First premiéred at the National Theatre, Tom Stoppard’s undisputed masterpiece, Arcadia, is an exciting new collaboration between Theatre Royal Brighton Productions (Dandy Dick, Blue Orange) and English Touring Theatre (Ghosts, The Misanthrope). In a stately home in 19th Century rural Derbyshire, secret desires and professional rivalries take hold of the residents of Sidley Park as Thomasina, a talented pupil, makes a startling discovery well ahead of her time, whilst in the present day, academics Hannah and Bernard attempt to piece together the fragments of truth that tell her story. One of the greatest plays of the last century, the Olivier Award-winning Arcadia explores the delicate relationship between past and present, blending history with actuality as the focus drifts from 1809 to now and back again. Arcadia was recently voted one of the Nation’s Top Ten plays in English Touring Theatre’s ‘My Favourite Play’ poll.
