WELCOME TO THE EDINBURGH PLAYHOUSE AND YOUR NEW STYLE WHAT’S ON GUIDE...

Sister Act: A very gloomy Monday lunchtime was brightened up by a visit from Craig Revel Horwood who joined us to talk about Sister Act. Forth One’s Arlene Stuart hosted the event and we were joined by an audience of valued customers who were given the opportunity to ask Craig questions about Alexandra Burke and who Len’s replacement will be! Sandwiches and cakes were provided on the day by Social Bite.

As always you will find a wide range of events to keep you entertained during the coming months, but also some behind the scenes news and insights. We’ll be keeping you informed about all aspects of the Playhouse and the exciting world of live theatre, but make sure you also join us on social media for exclusive peeks into life backstage.

‘I HAVE HEARD FROM FRIENDS WHO SAW THE SHOW IN LONDON THAT SHERIDAN SMITH WAS EXCELLENT IN THE ROLE AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HER IN ACTION’ ROSIE SANDISON, EDINBURGH GROUP BOOKER

‘A GUARANTEED HIT AND THE CHANCE TO SEE ONE OF THE UK’S, IF NOT THE BEST, TOP TALENTS SHERIDAN SMITH ON STAGE, GREAT MOVIE – BRING ON THE STAGE SHOW’ BRUCE KNOX , EDINBURGH GROUP BOOKER

This month in Edinburgh Playhouse history saw The Cult, Deep Purple, Magnum, Simply Red, The Thompson Twins and Elkie Brooks all grace this famous stage in 1987. A little known behind the scenes fact is that The Cult’s rider requested that the dressing room was painted black for their visit!

EDINBURGH FUNDRAISING We are proud to support a number of charities. In 2016, you, our customer’s helped us raise over £1,100 for Artlink who aim to increase Arts participation opportunities for people with disabilities. Last year, you also helped us raise over £11,600 for CHAS (Children’s Hospice Association in Scotland) who provide access to palliative care for babies and children in Scotland and £9,000 for Waverley Care who work to make a positive difference to the lives of people in Scotland living with HIV and Hepatitis C.

Fiona Jackson from our box office team has been fundraising in memory of her mother Lynn Jackson. A scholarship foundation was set Fiona Jackson up and Fiona recently organised a successful charity ball. Lynn was Chief Nurse for Cancer Services at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh and was herself diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2014. She fought bravely but unfortunately lost her uphill battle in December 2014. The foundation has been set up to provide funding for specialist training and support for nurses.

Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, the Olivier and Tony Award® winning West End show is coming to Edinburgh as part of its first ever UK tour! ‘The audience loves Beautiful’ (Daily Mail) and critics agree! Called ‘slick and beautifully played’ (The Times), the ‘amazing story of the songwriting talents of Carole King told through laughter and tears’ (BBC Radio 2) critics are celebrating this ‘tapestry of greatest hits’ (The Guardian). Long before she was Carole King, the chart-topping music legend, she was an ordinary girl with an extraordinary talent. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation, with countless classics such as (You Make Me Feel) Like a Natural Woman, Take Good Care of my Baby, You’ve Got a Friend, So Far Away, It Might As Well Rain Until September, Up on the Roof, and Locomotion.
