Cameron Mackintosh returns to the Playhouse with a burst of colour as the famous tight-rope walking, big top musical Barnum rolls into town. With Brian Conley and Linzi Hateley starring in roles made famous by Michael Crawford and Glenn Close, come follow the band and marvel at the acrobatic artistry of this must-see musical; one of my personal favourites and a perfect treat for all the family. In an exciting new venture, The Boards piano and cocktail bar plays host to an exclusive photographic exhibition featuring images of our best-loved comedians entitled 50 Comics by Matt Crockett. On-stage comedy continues with a line up including Jon Richardson, Lee Mack, Omid Djalili, Ha Ha Hood and Marie Jones’ Stones In His Pockets directed by Ian McElhinney (Game of Thrones). Christmas at the Playhouse is without doubt a traditionally spine-tingling affair. This year is no different as the global musical phenomenon Wicked flies into Edinburgh! Scotland’s own Ashleigh Gray takes the coveted role of ‘Elphaba’ as she casts her emerald spell over the city, making theatre magic and defying gravity for 8 weeks only from 19th November!

Coppélia Every toy has a story, especially in this charming comedy of errors, a witty combination of antics and abracadabra, set in a doll maker’s workshop. Coppélia is perfect for first-time balletgoers, families and everyone in between.
The Nutcracker
This most famous of fantasy ballets for all the family begins as night falls on Christmas Eve. When midnight strikes we are swept away to a fairy-tale world where nothing is quite as it seems, toy dolls spring to life, the Mouse-king and his mouse-army battle with the Nutcracker Prince and we travel through the Land of Snow to an enchanted place where the magic really begins.
Swan Lake
The greatest romantic ballet of all time is brought to life by Tchaikovsky’s haunting and unforgettable score. From the impressive splendour of the Palace ballroom to the moon-lit lake where swans glide in perfect formation, this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all.

special events jon richardson nidiot SAT 13 SEP 8pm Jon Richardson is checking his tyre pressures and putting an emergency packed lunch in the boot of his car, ready to hit the road again with a brand new tour Nidiot. The perennial singleton and misanthrope is determined to become a more easygoing person for the sake of his friends and his future health. Come and find out whether or not a leopard can change its spots, or if they are doomed to be angry forever not to have been given a more uniform and symmetrical fur pattern.
Direct from four sold-out seasons in London’s Hyde Park Winter Wonderland and its sold-out 2014 theatre tour Combining contemporary ‘cirque’ skills with thrilling stunt action, Cirque Berserk is a dangerfilled spectacle that will amaze audiences of all ages. Presenting the world’s most dangerous circus act, seen for the first time live on stage in the UK, the legendary Globe of Death (3 motorcyclists speeding around inside a steel cage at over 60mph), plus a troupe of more than thirty jugglers, acrobats, aerialists, dancers, musicians and death-defying stunt men, joined by Guinness World Record-holding strong man Hercules and award-winning clown Tweedy.

The multi award-winning comedy by Marie Jones. Following a sell-out run on Broadway and four and a half years in the West End and on tour, the worldwide sensation returns. The original director Ian McElhinney, now starring in the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones, is once again at the helm. Don’t miss this hilarious and moving tale of a quiet Irish community turned upside down by the arrival of a Hollywood movie shoot.
The multi award-winning acknowledged master of psychological illusion is back on tour in 2015 with a brand new one-man show, Derren Brown: Miracle. Having confessed that performing live on stage gives him the greatest pleasure, Derren is, once again, looking forward to the challenge that comes with being acknowledged as one of the world’s most renowned live performers; a dark manipulator of magic and mind control. This will be Derren’s seventh show since 2003. Since then he has toured every year and been watched by an estimated audience of over one and a half million people. He has won two prestigious Olivier Awards, for Something Wicked This Way Comes (2006) and Svengali (2012). His last show, Infamous, was universally acclaimed by critics and audience alike.
