Inés de Castro James MacMillan

New production Sung in English with English supertitles

Commissioned by Scottish Opera in 1996, James MacMillan’s extraordinary first opera, after the play by Jo Clifford, has established itself as a modern masterpiece. Jenůfa Janᡠcek

A new co-production with Den Jyske Opera/Danish National Opera Sung in Czech with English supertitles

Famed for its distinctive musical voice, Jen˚ufa is one of the most powerful of all Janáˇcek’s operas. Inspired by traditional folk melodies and with colourful orchestration and rhythmic bite, the score sweeps the story along with tension, drama and overwhelming emotion. Jen˚ufa has been keeping audiences on the edge of their seats for over 100 years, drawing its audience into a claustrophobic community that is so universally recognisable. The cast and chorus are joined by an ensemble of dancers to bring the composer’s exceptional choreographic writing to life.

Il trovatore Verdi

Revival of the 2001 production Sung in Italian with English supertitles

At an office in Harley Street, London, Bertie and his wife Elizabeth (the future much-loved Queen Mother) are meeting maverick Australian speech therapist and failed actor, Lionel Logue. With the support of his wife, Bertie and Logue embark on an extraordinary journey to overcome his stammer and deliver the now iconic speech broadcast across the globe to inspire his people. As the world stood against the Nazi threat, The King’s Speech is the true and heart-warming story of a greatly loved royal family who took this nation through its darkest hour. KING’S THEATRE

gallops back out on tour to bring The West End production to theatres across the land (to the sound of banging coconut shells). Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production (well, almost), created by Eric Idle and John du Prez. The latest tour, which is directed by Christopher Luscombe, follows hot on the heels of the can’t–believe-how-successful-it-was Monty Python Reunion at The O2 and Eric Idle’s acclaimed performance of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony - the world sang along, and Spamalot audiences get the opportunity to do so too! During the run, there have been 21 onstage moustache incidents, three suspected cases of swine flu (French pigs!), three outbreaks of nits and 92 pairs of coconuts.
