Kafka’s nightmarish tale of Joseph K, a man viciously persecuted for an unknown crime, has lost none of its chilling potency over the years. Working with Academy Award-winning playwright Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons 1988), their new opera is brimming with drama, paranoia and Kafka’s notoriously absurd humour. Scottish premiere. ‘BEAUTIFULLY-CONCEIVED’

Lyrics by Richard Thomas

King’s and Theatre Royal are proud supporters of Scottish amateur theatre.

Bartók’s beautiful, mysterious opera is staged in collaboration with visionary Scottish theatre company Vanishing Point, and directed by its founder Matthew Lenton, with internationally acclaimed singers Karen Cargill and Robert Hayward. Bluebeard is presented alongside The 8th Door, a new music theatre work Lenton has co-created with Scottish Opera Composer in Residence Lliam Paterson, exploring the ‘before’ of Bluebeard’s gruesome story.

World-renowned director Sir David McVicar is joined by the design team behind War Horse, Rae Smith and Paule Constable, as he directs Debussy’s extraordinary opera. Inspired by the paintings of Danish artist Vilhelm Hammershøi, their production brings to life an enigmatic tale of love, honour, jealousy and loss. Scottish Opera Music Director Stuart Stratford conducts Debussy’s beautiful and compelling score. THU 23 FEB, WED 1 MAR, SAT 4 MAR 7.15PM (SUN 26 FEB 4PM)

Following last year’s celebrated production of West Side Story, PMOS returns with the hotly anticipated Glasgow premiere of the West End smash Made In Dagenham. Based on historical events of the Ford Dagenham strike of the swinging 60s, the show follows factory girl Rita as she becomes an unlikely feminist icon in the battle for equal pay. Rita and her friends prove that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when they stand together.

But as Detective Superintendent Roy Grace continues to deal with the mysterious disappearance of his own wife, he starts to dig a little deeper into the chilling murder case and it soon becomes clear that love can be a dangerous thing... Adapted for the stage by award-winning writer Shaun McKenna and directed by Olivier Award-winner Ian Talbot, Not Dead Enough is the third novel in Peter James’ award winning Roy Grace series and the third play in his box office smash hit and critically acclaimed stage franchise.

Musical Director Alan Fraser

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto British streets. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits with a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas.

This sensational multi award-winning West End show returns to Glasgow. Experience the drama, passion and excitement as a cast of phenomenally talented actors and musicians tell Buddy Holly’s story, from his meteoric rise to fame, to his final legendary performance at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. Featuring two terrific hours of the greatest songs ever written, including That’ll Be The Day, Oh Boy, Rave On, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, Johnny B. Goode, Raining In My Heart, Everyday, Shout and many, many more, this show is just Peggy Sue-perb!

Monty Python’s Spamalot gallops into the King’s (to the sound of banging coconut shells) courtesy of Pantheon’s latest production. Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production, (well, almost) created by Eric Idle and John Du Prez.

TUE 7.30PM WED 2.30PM & 7.30PM THU 7.30PM FRI 5.30PM & 8.30PM SAT 2.30PM & 7.30PM

Spamalot tells the legendary tale of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy (or possibly a brace) of beautiful show girls, witch burnings (cancelled due to health and safety) not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people. The show features fantastic tunes more magical than a Camelot convention, including I Am Not Dead Yet, Knights of the Round Table, Find Your Grail and of course the Nation’s Favourite Comedy Song (Reader’s Digest Poll 2010 – before it went bust), Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life.

TICKETS FROM £10 £11.90 online/phone

Spamalot is presented through special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide (TRW), 570 Seventh Avenue, Suite 2010, New York, NY 10018. Pantheon is a Registered Charity SC002818.

FROM THE TEAM THAT BROUGHT YOU 10 YEARS OF AGATHA CHRISTIE AND THIS YEAR’S CLASSIC THRILLER THEATRE COMPANY HIT REHEARSAL FOR MURDER

Building on the phenomenal decade-long success of The Agatha Christie Theatre Company, which sold over two million tickets and continually played to packed houses around the UK, Bill Kenwright presents a new production adapted from one of the most celebrated works of the writer often hailed as the successor to Agatha Christie.

Eunice struggles to fit in. When she joins a wealthy family as their housekeeper the very reason for her awkwardness, long hidden and deeply buried, leads inexorably to a terrible tale of murder in cold blood – on Valentine’s Day. Ruth Rendell’s brilliant plot unravels a lifetime of deceit, despair and cover-ups which, when revealed, brings a shocking revelation almost as grizzly as murder itself.

Led by Director Roy Marsden, best known for playing PD James’ detective Adam Dalgliesh, the cast includes Film, TV and Stage favourite Sophie Ward who played the ill-fated love interest of Young Sherlock Holmes and Dr Helen Trent in ITV drama Heartbeat, pop-idol Mark Wynter who since his hit parade days has featured in seven Agatha Christie Company productions, Deborah Grant (Not Going Out, Bergerac), movie icon Shirley Anne Field who became an overnight star in The Entertainer and Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, Antony Costa who shot to fame in chart topping boy band Blue, and Agatha Christie Company stalwart Ben Nealon whose TV credits include ITV’s award-winning Soldier Soldier.

Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of La Cage Aux Folles, live an idyllic existence in the heart of St Tropez. But behind the curtains of this sparkling extravaganza, all may be about to change. Georges’ son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life. Drama and hilarity ensue when a meeting of the parents forces them to cover up their vibrant lifestyle. Will Albin be able to play the role of his life to ensure that Jean-Michel can marry his love? John Partridge’s extensive theatre credits boast the West End productions of A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, Cats, Starlight Express and Chicago, but perhaps he is best known for playing the loveable Christian in BBC’s EastEnders and as a judge on TV’s Over The Rainbow. Adrian Zmed’s Broadway credits include Blood Brothers, Grease and Falsettos and on television he is best loved as Officer Vince Romano in the hit TV show T. J. Hooker and on the big screen as Johnny in Grease 2. Joining them is West End Icon, Marti Webb. She received huge critical acclaim for Tell Me On A Sunday, a show specifically written for her by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black. She has recorded nine solo albums and had numerous hit singles, including Always There, the theme from the hit BBC series Howard’s Way and the smash hit Take That Look Off Your Face. | 36 |
