Robert Powell is the new Poirot A quintessential English country estate is thrown into chaos following the murder of eccentric inventor Sir Claud Amory, and the theft of his new earth shattering formula. Arriving at the estate just moments too late, one man immediately senses a potent brew of despair, treachery and deception amid the estate’s occupants. That man is Hercule Poirot. In the first play ever written by Agatha Christie, we are introduced to a character who went onto become the most famous detective of all time and the only fictional character ever to receive a full page obituary in the New York Times. vfb introduction to ballet
sat 10 may 5pm C
sat 10 may 2pm Minimum age 8
A specially commissioned score, created solely for Vienna Festival Ballet by Chris Nicholls, with choreography by Sheila Styles. Featuring music from some of Rossini’s most famous operas, La Cenerentola, the Italian Girl in Algiers, Silken Ladder, which adds to the magical fantasy world of the ballet Cinderella.
Prior to the performance, at 2pm, VFB would like to offer to children and students who either attend a ballet/dancing school, or simply have an interest in ballet in general the chance to see how a professional ballet company go about their daily routine. The children will watch and learn how dancers prepare themselves, and warm their muscles before the performance. See the exercises at the barre build and lead to the dazzling displays of virtuosity seen in the centre. After the warm up, there will be an informal chat, explaining about the origins of ballet, the story of the ballet that night, costumes and pointe shoes will be shown, letting the children get a feel for the ballet. They can then ask questions and even try a shoulder lift or a pirouette with the dancers! Please call 0844 871 3024 to book.

It’s 1930’s New York, and whilst the whole nation is suffering at the hands of the economic depression one plucky little girl knows that one day soon everything will turn out just fine - indeed that day might just be tomorrow. Lifted from the Little Orphan Annie comic strips of the time this musical sees Annie escape, with the help of her friends at the orphanage, from the clutches of Miss Hannigan as she sets off to find her parents. Her infectious nature soon finds her a new best friend, an offer of adoption from the billionaire Daddy Warbucks and even a meeting with President F D Roosevelt himself. But once Annie’s good fortune hits the news you can be sure Miss Hannigan will be back on her trail. York Stage Musicals return to the Grand Opera House with their brand new production of this classic Broadway musical. Guaranteed to be filled with the company’s usual high energy cast, unique sets, live band and high octane choreography; Annie is a non stop bundle of little girls, comic strip characters and spectacular songs including It’s A Hard Knock Life, Easy Street and of course the heart warming Tomorrow.

FEATURING the hits
the musical
inspired by the life of marc bolan
Written by Peter Rowe Music and Lyrics by Marc Bolan This brand new musical, inspired by the life of rock legend Marc Bolan, explodes onto the stage nearly four decades after the iconic star’s tragic death. Featuring some of the greatest pop songs ever written, 20th Century Boy tells the story of Marc Bolan and his band T.Rex, exposing some of the myths and taking the audience on a tearful, yet joyful journey through Marc’s fascinating life. Rocker, poet, electric warrior, king of glam and godfather of punk, Bolan was arguably the biggest rock star the UK had ever seen. ‘Bigger than the Beatles’ the media said. Before his tragic death in 1977, just days short of his 30th birthday, Bolan lived life at breakneck speed, creating a series of iconic images, a string of number one hits and an army of obsessive fans. Packed with all T.Rex’s 70s hits, staged by Gary Lloyd (Thriller Live) and with a West End cast, 20th Century Boy is a glorious story and celebration of glam rock at its colourful best!

York Stage musicals are pleased to bring to York, for the first time ever, their very own production of the show that took the west end and Broadway by storm, Sister Act. This feel-amazing musical comedy smash that the critics called ‘ridiculously fun’ when it was first released. Based on the 90’s film starring whoopie Goldberg, the nuns are back to sing and this time its live on stage. Featuring original music by Tony and 8-time Oscar winner Alan menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast). Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and is forced into hiding in the last place anyone would think to look - a convent! under the suspicious watch of mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice!
