star of Dirty Dancing (West End) & finalist on BBC1’s I’d Do Anything York Stage Musicals are pleased to bring to York, for the first time ever, their very own production of the show that took the West End and Broadway by storm, Sister Act. This is the feel-amazing musical comedy smash that the critics called ‘ridiculously fun’ when it was first released. Based on the 90’s film starring Whoopi Goldberg, the nuns are back to sing and this time it’s live on stage. Featuring original music by Tony and 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast). Sister Act tells the hilarious story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and is forced into hiding in the last place anyone would think to look - a convent! Under the suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. A sparkling tribute to the universal power of friendship, Sister Act is reason to rejoice!

Loveable teen-dreamer Tracy Turnblad is a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart who becomes the unexpected new star of local TV dance programme, The Corny Collins Show, much to the frustration of the show’s villainous producer, Velma Von Tussle. In a tale of teenage tantrums, triumphs and trials, the backdrop for Hairspray is 1960s Baltimore, America, where black is black and white is white and ‘pleasantly plump’ girls certainly don’t dance on TV. Never shy of standing up for what she believes in, Tracy launches a riotous campaign to integrate The Corny Collins Show, making many enemies and friends along the way. With songs such as You Can’t Stop The Beat, Good Morning Baltimore and Welcome to the Sixties; audiences are sure to be mash-potato-ing all the way home.
