‘A BIG, FAMILYFRIENDLY MUSICAL’ NEW YORK OBSERVER
‘IT WAS SIMPLY FABULOUS, BABY’ From producers Whoopi Goldberg and Stage Entertainment (Hairspray, High School Musical), the smash hit musical Sister Act is coming to Glasgow for 2 weeks only!
Glasgow is one of the most significant cities participating in this ambitious nationwide new writing project, created and performed in six centres from Scotland in the north to London in the south.
The show, which played to over a million people in the West End, stars Coronation Street’s Denise Black as Mother Superior, Brookside and The Royal favourite Michael Starke as Monsignor O’Hara and Cynthia Erivo as Deloris Van Cartier.
Forming part of the London 2012 Festival, the culmination of the Cultural Olympiad, playwright Ursula Rani Sarma and young people from across the nation deliver a vibrant piece of new writing inspired by the Olympic theme of truce. Ursula’s ideas, gathered from workshops with local people, have produced an exciting, innovative piece of theatre with young people from a variety of groups including Sparc Arts, Stenhousemuir Primary School, The LINKES Project and Duncanrig Secondary School. Performed on the iconic stage of the King’s Theatre, this compelling piece gives us an insight into our culture and how young people see the world in 2012. He had it all; charisma, political power, a messianic following - and a really great tan. However, Tommy Sheridan, once voted the Second Greatest Scot ever, flew too close to the sun when he took on the News of the World - and lost. From the pen of Rab C Nesbitt creator Ian Pattison, and starring comedian Des Mclean and Taggart’s Colin McCredie, this irreverent tragi-comedy charts Sheridan’s rise and fall, from Karl Marx to Coolio, Pollok to Parliament, Solidarity to swinger’s clubs, to prison and beyond. 12

9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is a hilarious new musical comedy, based on the hit movie and centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot of a boss. They conspire to take control of the company and learn there’s nothing they can’t do even in a man’s world. Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL is about teaming up and taking care of business. WRITTEN BY

MUSIC BY TCHAIKOVSKY New Adventures’ 25th Birthday culminates with the world premiere of Matthew Bourne’s latest re-imagining of a ballet classic. Sleeping Beauty sees Bourne return to the music of Tchaikovsky to complete the trio of ballet masterworks that started with Nutcracker! and the international smash hit, Swan Lake. This timeless fairy tale, about a young girl cursed to sleep for 100 years, was turned into a legendary ballet in 1890. We meet our heroine, Aurora, at her Christening, when fairies and vampires fed the gothic imagination, before the story moves forward a century to the modern day. Matthew Bourne’s haunting new production is a Gothic Romance for all ages; a supernatural love story that even the passage of time cannot hinder. 18
