From time to time we like to keep you informed on the improvements we have made around the venue and this Summer we’ve updated the theatre’s Building Management System, which controls and monitors our mechanical and electrical equipment such as ventilation, lighting, power systems, fire systems, and security systems. Though not always visible to the general public we are able to make continued enhancements to MKT as a direct result of the contributions from the Venue Improvements Levy we place on every ticket sold. As always we’d like to thank you all for the support you give to Milton Keynes Theatre and look forward to revealing more exciting improvements in the months to come! We hope you have a great time with us and look forward to welcoming you soon.

The Magic Flute Every now and then we need a night at the theatre which just makes us smile. Dominic Cooke’s warm and witty production of The Magic Flute does just that. Mozart’s sublime music alongside an angry lobster, a newspaper-reading lion and a fish that is also a bicycle adds up to an irrepressibly entertaining evening. The Magic Flute is the perfect introduction to opera for all ages with moments of total enchantment and music that will remain in the memory forever.

Chorus! Chorus! is a fully-staged extravaganza of some of opera’s greatest moments, featuring the talents of soprano Lesley Garrett. Her superb voice, in exquisite union with the impeccable WNO Chorus, brings every song to life in a delightful cocktail of music. It will remind many why they fell in love with opera and ensure newcomers will be left wanting more.

Hansel & Gretel This deliciously dark interpretation of the well-loved fairy tale will be devoured by anyone who possesses a wicked sense of fun and fantasy. Richard Jones revels in the nightmarish aspects of the story. His classic production dwells on the themes of gluttony, cannibalism and excess which lie beneath the story’s surface. This spellbinding production will intrigue those who wish to delve into the dark and comic side of opera and fairy tale. The Magic Flute and Hansel & Gretel are sung in English and Chorus! is sung in various languages. All operas are easily followed with our real-time stage translation.

Based on Baroness Maria von Trapp’s 1949 autobiography, this wonderfully lavish new staging of The Sound of Music tells the true story of the world-famous singing family, from their romantic beginnings and search for happiness, to their thrilling escape to freedom as their beloved Austria becomes part of the Third Reich at the start of WWII. The unforgettable score features some of the most memorable songs ever performed on stage, including Edelweiss, My Favorite Things, Do-Re-Mi, Climb Ev’ry Mountain, and of course, the title song The Sound of Music. This new production of the classic stage musical coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the film version - the best loved and most successful movie musical in history.

Following the critically acclaimed hit stage production of Peter James’ The Perfect Murder, the best-selling work of the No.1 novelist returns to the stage with the adaptation of his most famous and popular book to date - Dead Simple. Michael Harrison thinks he has it all; great career, good friends and a beautiful fiancée. As time runs out and the terror grows, Detective Superintendent Roy Grace tries to solve his mysterious disappearance, but begins to fear that Michael will never be found in time. gallops back out on tour to bring the West End production to theatres across the land (to the sound of banging coconut shells). Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot is a kind-of-new musical with a book by Eric Idle and an entirely new score for the new production (well, almost), created by Eric Idle and John du Prez. The latest tour, which is directed by Christopher Luscombe, follows hot on the heels of the can’t–believe-how-successful-it-was Monty Python Reunion at The O2 and Eric Idle’s acclaimed performance of Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life at the 2012 Olympic Closing Ceremony - the world sang along, and Spamalot audiences get the opportunity to do so too! During the run, there have been 21 onstage moustache incidents, three suspected cases of swine flu (French pigs!), three outbreaks of nits and 92 pairs of coconuts.
