We welcome Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in August, direct from the Savoy Theatre in London with an all-star cast; then the Autumn season launches in September with the hugely popular Hairspray. Jesus Christ Superstar follows at the end of September, with the smash-hit sensation Stomp bursting on to the stage in October. If you haven’t already seen this incredible piece of theatre, make sure you don’t miss out. The award-winning musical The Bodyguard, based on the blockbuster film and starring Alexandra Burke, follows in November and then we head towards the festive season with Horrible Histories; our Christmas production is the classic family-favourite Annie starring Jodie Prenger. Welsh National Opera make their annual visit in November, bringing I Puritani and Orlando along with an exciting new production of Sweeney Todd. Looking ahead to 2016, we have the inimitable David Hasselhoff in new musical Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, and visits from the Russian State Ballet of Siberia and Opera and Ballet International. As always, we are delighted to welcome some of the top names in music and comedy to the city, including Caro Emerald, Will Young, Jools Holland, Gareth Malone, Dara O Briain, Michael Palin and Noel Fielding. Our Ambassador Lounge, which was introduced last September, is proving very popular with audiences. Situated adjacent to the Stalls Bar this offers a fantastic opportunity to celebrate your special event in style - why not take a look during your next visit? TIM RICE & ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER’S LEGENDARY MUSICAL Jesus Christ Superstar exploded onto the musical scene in 1971 - stunning audiences and changing the face of musical theatre forever. Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock opera tells the story of the last seven days in the life of Jesus through an extraordinary, groundbreaking score. As compelling today as it was at its inception over forty years ago, Jesus Christ Superstar has some of musical theatre’s most legendary songs from I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Everything’s Alright and Gethsemane through to, of course, Superstar. Leading performer Glenn Carter returns as Jesus, a role he has played in the West End, on Broadway and on film. Musical theatre star Tim Rogers, whose theatre credits include Carousel, Whistle Down the Wind, Jersey Boys and the title role in Jekyll & Hyde at the Union Theatre, plays Judas Iscariot, while X Factor finalist Rachel Adedeji stars as Mary Magdalene, direct from the UK and European tour of Thriller Live. Produced by Bill Kenwright and the creative team behind numerous blockbuster musicals, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the world’s oldest story with the superb theatricality they have brought to Evita, Joseph, Cabaret, Blood Brothers, Whistle Down the Wind, Starlight Express and many more.

WELSH NATIONAL OPERA’S AUTUMN SEASON CO-PRODUCTION WITH WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE AND WEST YORKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE IN ASSOCIATION WITH ROYAL EXCHANGE THEATRE
One Place. One Audience. One Time. The Time is WNO.
SWEENEY TODD
PERFORMED BY WELSH NATIONAL OPERA
STEPHEN SONDHEIM BOOK BY HUGH WHEELER MUSIC AND LYRICS BY
Each world-class production creates an exhilarating and unique series of moments. Don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Make time for WNO this autumn. This season, we delve into madness with three fascinating stories.
I PURITANI BELLINI
Emotional and political turmoil erupt in Bellini’s masterpiece, the most purely entertaining of all bel canto operas. Revel in stratospheric showstoppers, beautiful singing and a thrilling story. This new production travels between two historical conflicts – The Troubles of 70s Belfast and the English Civil War.
ORLANDO HANDEL
Few great artists convey their deep understanding of the human condition as powerfully as Handel. In Orlando, he conveys the hero’s descent into madness with sublime music. This stylish production fittingly sets this poignant exploration of human suffering in a London hospital in 1940 on the first night of the Blitz. Welsh National Opera also performs Sweeney Todd. See overleaf for details. I puritani and Orlando are sung in Italian. You can follow both operas with real-time stage translation in English. Check when booking to ensure the surtitles are visible from your seat.

FROM AN ADAPTATION BY
JONATHAN TUNICK
Attend the tale of Sweeney Todd. His skin was pale and his eye was odd. He shaved the faces of gentlemen, Who never thereafter were heard of again. The genius of Stephen Sondheim takes this tale of poverty, madness and spiralling depravity to a whole new level. He creates a musical recipe which lodges in the memory like the richest flavours and aromas of your favourite meal. Though after this performance, we’d guess that won’t include any variety of meat pie. Performed by Welsh National Opera, James Brining’s thrilling production of this musical masterpiece is set in the late 1970s/ early 1980s. Clever lyrics drive the story along with pace and pitch black humour, drawing you, almost against your will into the world of a man pushed over the edge of reason by a corrupt and powerful elite. Originally produced on Broadway by Richard Barr, Charles Woodward, Robert Fryer, Mary Lea Johnson, Martin Richard, in association with Dean and Judy Manos. Presented by arrangement with Josef Weinberger Limited on behalf of Music Theatre International of New York.

My First Ballet: Sleeping Beauty is an enchanting version of the fairy tale ballet created especially for children aged three upwards. As a baby, Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil Carabosse: on her 16th birthday, she will prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die. Her godmother the Lilac Fairy alters the spell so Aurora will not die but will sleep for 100 years, only to be awoken by true love’s kiss. From Aurora’s christening in the grand hall of the palace, to her jubilant wedding celebrations, the popular fairy tale comes alive on stage.
