brand new show for 2011/2012!
December 2011
This year the New Victoria Theatre is spoiling you with a fabulously extravagant updated version of Peter Pan.
Sat 10 2.00 7.00
A suitably marvellous cast will be treading the boards of the New Victoria Panto pirate ship this year bringing the tale vividly into life. Steve McFadden, one of the most recognisable soap villains in the country, returns to Woking panto as the dastardly Captain Hook. Joining Steve, and adding a bit of glamour to the pirate crew is The Only Way is Essex’s Harry Derbidge as one of Captain Hook’s swashbuckling pirates. They will be joined on their mission to collar that cheeky Peter Pan by funny man Andy Collins who will be playing the hilarious Smee. Of course it wouldn’t be a New Victoria Panto without an amazing production brimming with astounding special effects (Peter Pan can fly after all!), sartorially splendid costumes and superbly crafted sets. The festive season is the perfect opportunity to unite your family and indulge in one of Britain’s proudest traditions but you better be quick as with the sprinkling of fairy dust adorning this year’s production it is sure to be a fly away success!

‘sensational’ daily telegraph
‘genuinely touching well worth a spin’ the daily telegraph
Following a record breaking West End season at the Garrick Theatre where it was nominated for Best New West End Musical 2010 by ‘What’s On Stage’ David Essex and Boogie Nights creator Jon Conway invite you to a rollercoaster ride of a musical, underscored by a helter-skelter of David Essex hits such as: A Winter’s Tale, Hold Me Close, Gonna Make You A Star, Me And My Girl Nightclubbing, Silver Dream Machine, and Rock On. Inspired by David’s album, All The Fun Of The Fair, David plays fun fair owner Levi Lee, recently widowed and father of a rebellious teenage son. Like father like son, they’ll take you for a ride. Danger and mysticism lurk in the future, as predicted by the gypsy fortune teller who is in love with Levi. Dodgems and motorbikes, crafty cons and candy floss, fairground horses and fights, along with romance and rock and roll mean you’re sure to go on a rollercoaster of a ride, but beware, all is not always fun at the fair! ‘It’s a great night out’ Simon Bates Radio Legend www.allthefunofthefairmusical.com 6

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with tragic consequences. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award-winning Blood Brothers and Bill Kenwright’s production, having recently celebrated its 23rd phenomenal year in London, continues to enjoy standing ovations at every devastating performance. A new adventures production
the 20th anniversary PRODUCTION
Matthew Bourne’s
One of the most popular dance productions ever staged in the UK, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! returns to the New Victoria Theatre to celebrate its 20 th anniversary for one week only. Music by Tchaikovsky
This delicious theatrical feast has family-sized helpings of Matthew Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy. Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a hilariously bleak Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland. Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s unforgettable sets and costumes combine with sizzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional favourite.

Hailed by The Observer as ‘the undisputed king of dance theatre’, Matthew Bourne’s company New Adventures has produced some of the most successful dance productions of the last two decades including Swan Lake, Edward Scissorhands and last year’s sell-out hit, Cinderella.

‘the audience loved it. a hit’
Back by popular demand The love story that gripped Paris. A tragic tale of searing passion and memorable music, La Traviata is Verdi’s outstanding interpretation of one of the most popular love stories of the 19th century, La dame aux Camelias. Based on a true story, it tells of the passionate consumptive Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in La Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include The Brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un Di Felice and Violetta’s haunting aria Addio Del Passato.

graham seed & michael simkins The original writers of the classic BBC TV series, Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn have reunited for this anniversary production and now the Prime Minister Jim Hacker played by Graham Seed (Nigel Pargetter in The Archers) and his Cabinet Secretary Sir Humphrey Appleby played by Michael Simkins (Mamma Mia, Above Suspicion) are back in this hilarious new play. In a world of spin, BlackBerrys and ‘sexed up’ dossiers, the PM is staring disaster in the face. The country is on the brink of financial meltdown and the Government’s only apparent salvation comes from a morally dubious deal with the Foreign Minister of Kumranistan. Will Jim Hacker and his team of advisors be able to rescue the country from the edge?

The girls are back! One of BBC TV’s most popular and fondlyremembered sitcoms comes to the stage with all three of its original leading cast members, Pauline Quirke, Linda Robson and Lesley Joseph. Birds Of A Feather ran on the BBC for nearly ten years throughout the 1990s becoming a massive hit right from the word go and remains not only a classic comedy but also, as a female-centred long-running series, a truly rare gem. Now the three stars of the TV series are reunited on stage to recreate their adored characters, sisters Sharon Theodopolopoudos and Tracy Stubbs and their sex-mad neighbour, Dorien Green, in a brand-new show created especially for the theatre by The Comedy Theatre Company, producers of the highly-successful tour of Victoria Wood’s dinnerladies. Please note that, due to the busy work lives of the three stars, this tour is very limited in length so make sure you grab this opportunity to see Birds Of A Feather onstage for the first time ever.

Starring Connie Fisher & Michael Xavier
Connie Fisher (The Sound of Music, winner of the BBC’s How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria) and double Olivier Award nominee Michael Xavier (Love Story, The Phantom of the Opera) star in the multi award-winning musical comedy, Wonderful Town. Featuring a superb score by legendary American composer Leonard Bernstein (West Side Story), the show has received countless awards since its premiere in 1953 including the prestigious Tony Award for Best Musical. Connie plays aspiring writer Ruth Sherwood who arrives in New York City fresh from Ohio with her beautiful younger sister Eileen. Bursting with dreams of romance, riches and perhaps a free lunch at Walgreen’s deli, the indomitable pair meet an array of colourful characters in their search for success, causing chaos and delight at every turn. Wonderful Town recreates the bright lights of 1930s New York City with spectacular sets, dazzling choreography and the rich sound of Bernstein’s magnificent music.
