I am delighted to introduce our Autumn 2014 brochure, which contains a fantastic mix of musicals, opera, ballet, family productions, concerts and comedy. The Autumn season includes a number of West End smash hits that are visiting Oxford on their first ever national tours - Rock Of Ages, The Full Monty - The Play and Shrek as well as the world-wide sensation Dirty Dancing and, returning to Oxford, celebrating an incredible 20 years, Riverdance. We’re also thrilled to welcome Welsh National Opera, and their Oxford-born Chief Executive and Artistic Director David Pountney, with two brand new productions, William Tell and Moses In Egypt, plus Carmen which is a co-production with Scottish Opera. English National Ballet also return with the enchanting Coppélia. Some of the biggest music and comedy acts will also be appearing over the coming months: Joan Rivers opens her tour at the New Theatre; Peter Andre returns following a sell-out performance in 2012; QI favourite Alan Davies, cabaret divas Fascinating Aida and master of wit Jimmy Carr also return. All musical genres are covered, with Level 42, The Sensational 60s Experience, One Night of Queen, The ELO Experience and The Magic of Motown. I’m delighted to be able to announce that, this summer, we will be beginning a programme of reinvestment and refurbishment across the theatre which we hope will improve facilities and comfort for you. Works include improvements to our stalls bar, lounge and installing additional ladies toilets. This is just the start of an ongoing refurbishment scheme, so keep your eyes out for more changes and let us know what you think. Don’t forget about our fabulous offers for ATG Theatre Card members - with discounted tickets on many shows and at the bar, plus offers with our local partner businesses, a Theatre Card can really make a difference when planning a night out. Please visit the website or ask at the box office for more information.

Why is Carmen one of the best loved of all operas? Is it the music which has become embedded into popular culture and consciousness? Is it Carmen herself, hard to like but impossible not to fall in love with, or the entire of cast of characters who surround her? We will all have our own reasons for wanting to see Carmen again and again.
