Playwright Alex Dennison is left heartbroken when his fiancée and leading lady Monica Welles is found dead from an apparent suicide. On the anniversary of that ill-fated night, Alex assembles the same cast and crew in the same theatre, for a reading of his new play. But as the reading begins, it becomes clear that Alex believes that Monica was murdered and he intends to uncover her killer.

Richard Alston Dance Company returns with characteristic panache in a programme bearing the Alston hallmarks of musicality and grace. Associate Choreographer Martin Lawrance has made Stronghold, to an intense score by Julia Wolfe. Stronghold sees all ten dancers cutting through the space with gusto. Alston’s Mazur is a duet for two men to Chopin mazurkas played live onstage, music through which the composer expressed his longing for his lost homeland. Mazur received 5 star reviews on its premiere in London. Richard Alston’s latest work is inspired by the sonatas of Scarlatti, a composer hugely influenced by Spanish music.
