WELCOME
Welcome to our new season brochure, in which we are delighted to present a whole host of entertainment throughout the Autumn and into 2014. I believe that we have put together an exciting mix of productions and once again we are bringing some of the biggest names in theatre, opera, ballet, music and comedy to Oxford. Musicals feature strongly in the Autumn, starting with the 40th Anniversary tour of cult favourite The Rocky Horror Show. The role of Frank N Furter will be played by Oliver Thornton who has already become a firm favourite with Rocky fans. Blood Brothers closed in the West End recently after a phenomenal 23 years, so the only place to see it now is on tour. The international sell-out hit West Side Story arrives at the New Theatre in October for a flying one-week visit. Ground-breaking choreography, unforgettable songs and lyrics, and an exciting young cast make this a show not to be missed. Christmas 2013 sees the return of Cats to Oxford for the first time since 2006 - the purrfect family treat for the festive season! We are pleased that the classic thriller The Mousetrap will be
coming to Oxford - did you know that the play had a short run at this very venue as part of its’ pre-London try-out back in 1952? Welsh National Opera make their regular, and hugely popular, annual visit in October. This first season from their new, Oxford-born, Artistic Director David Pountney comprises of the fascinating Tudors trilogy as well as Tosca. English National Ballet also return following the hugely successful Sleeping Beauty and My First Cinderella, with the rarely performed Le Corsaire. Following a series of sell-out music and comedy events already this year, we have managed to secure even more top acts for you this Autumn. Following her Number One second album, Caro Emerald brings her Shocking Miss Emerald tour into town in September, followed in November by Bryan Ferry who first performed at the New Theatre back in 1972 with Roxy Music! The ever-popular Jools Holland returns in November, with special guest Melanie C. Following on from the massively successful TV show The Big Reunion, Five are back on tour and heading to Oxford in December - a great night of 90s nostalgia. With Deacon Blue, Texas and The Waterboys also playing, there really is something for everyone. As the nights start to draw in, we can lighten the mood with top comedians Jason Manford, Ed Byrne and Fascinating Aida also returning by popular demand.
Over the past months, you may have received one of our survey emails following your visit. I would encourage you to fill these in, as the replies help us understand what is important to you. We continue to strive to make improvements to our operation, and we welcome your feedback. To make sure you never miss a show, just supply us with your email address when you book tickets and you’ll receive our monthly e-newsletter with details of new shows, offers and casting announcements. Don’t forget to check out our fabulous offers for ATG Theatre Card members - with half price tickets on many shows, discounts at the bar and offers with our local partner businesses, a Theatre Card can really make a difference when planning a night out. Please visit the website or ask at the box office for more information. I hope you have an enjoyable experience at the New Theatre. If you do have any feedback on any aspect of your visit, please let us know by either speaking to the Duty Manager when at the theatre or by emailing elizabethadlingtonNTO@ theambassadors.com

SENIOR SPECIAL A classic. A landmark. A legend. The Mousetrap is famous around the world as being the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre - with over 25,000 performances it’s a play to be proud of. And to celebrate 60 incredible years on stage, it’s going on tour for the first time, with a star cast to give you a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this masterpiece here at the New Theatre. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motives are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner. 8
