The love story that gripped Paris. A tragic tale of searing passion and memorable music, La Traviata is Verdi’s outstanding interpretation of one of the most popular love stories of the 19th century, La dame aux Camelias. Based on a true story, it tells of the passionate consumptive Violetta. There are many echoes of Verdi’s own life in La Traviata and he threw himself into the music. The highlights include The Brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un Di Felice and Violetta’s haunting aria Addio Del Passato.

A NEW ADVENTURES PRODUCTION

THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY PRODUCTION

MATTHEW BOURNE’S

One of the most popular dance productions ever staged in the UK, Matthew Bourne’s Nutcracker! makes its first visit to the New Theatre Oxford to celebrate its 20th anniversary for one week only. MUSIC BY TCHAIKOVSKY

This delicious theatrical feast has family-sized helpings of Matthew Bourne’s trademark wit, pathos and magical fantasy. Nutcracker! follows Clara’s bittersweet journey from a hilariously bleak Christmas Eve at Dr. Dross’ Orphanage, through a shimmering, ice-skating winter wonderland to the scrumptious candy kingdom of Sweetieland. Tchaikovsky’s glorious score and Anthony Ward’s unforgettable sets and costumes combine with sizzling choreography to create a fresh and charmingly irreverent interpretation of the traditional favourite.
