WELCOME TO RICHMOND THEATRE AND YOUR NEW STYLE WHAT’S ON GUIDE...

During the pantomime we held charity collections for the Richmond Theatre Trust (RTT) and Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, raising an incredible £15,500. The main aim of the RTT is to engage with people living in our local communities who experience barriers to theatre-going because of disability, age, social or economic circumstances and these donations will be used to reach out to them. A huge thanks to our customers!

I am thrilled to present an exciting programme for everyone this season including plays, musicals, children’s shows and pre-West End productions. In addition, we now have more helpful information on all our hospitality offers as well as Creative Learning activities. Enjoy having a browse and discovering the wealth of quality entertainment on offer.

‘GREAT CHARACTERFUL THEATRE. EFFICIENT BAR SERVICE AND A GOOD PLACE TO CATCH GREAT THEATRE OFF THE WEST END. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!’ P. MOLLOY

‘ONE OF MY FAVOURITE THEATRES... FOR AMBIANCE I GIVE IT A STANDING OVATION.’ J. NYX

Each season we’d like to introduce you to different members of our team who all work behind (and in front of) the scenes, working the cogs to bring you an exceptional theatre experience. Do say hello when you see them on your next visit and tell us about your experience.

‘As the Customer Experience Manager here at Richmond Theatre, myself and my team are here to ensure you have a welcoming and enjoyable Thomas Hayler experience, so you not only enjoy the show but our hospitality as well. We are extremely excited about our forthcoming season, and as a father I am especially looking forward to taking my children to see The Railway Children and Dinosaur World, which look like they will be amazing shows. I look forward to welcoming you back to the theatre very soon.’

‘I really enjoy my role as Ticketing Manager here at Richmond Theatre, as we have such a variety of shows on offer. I am particularly looking Emma Joyce forward to Jane Eyre, which is a collaboration between the National Theatre and Bristol Old Vic. At the Box Office we not only sell tickets for our shows, but we also sell ATG Theatre Cards, Ambassador Experience Packages and tickets for our fantastic Richmond Theatre Tour. Our brilliant Box Office staff are a very friendly bunch and are always happy to help!’

An allegory of the chilling McCarthyism of American politics in the 1950s, The Crucible also serves as a warning to future generations. Enter the world of sensationalism, hysteria and the power of celebrity that was the Salem Witch Trials and ask yourself how innocent we can really be as we stand by and watch a witch-hunt unfold. This bold new production of The Crucible starring Charlie Condou (Coronation Street), as the witch hunter, Reverend Hale and Victoria Yeates (Call the Midwife), as the falsely accused Elizabeth Proctor, is directed by Douglas Rintoul, Artistic Director of the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch, and brings together music and movement through a strong and ever-present cast. This atmospheric staging of a theatre classic is a chilling reminder of the frailty of reason in the face of hysteria.

Following an acclaimed, sold-out run at Chichester Festival Theatre, Fracked! or: please don’t use the F-word now visits Richmond as part of a major UK tour.

PRIOR TO WEST END It’s forty years since the appalling Beverly first put Donna Summer on the turntable, stacked a plate with little cheesey-pineapple ones, plied her guests with alcohol, cigarettes and Demis Roussos and slow-danced her way across the shag-pile into theatrical history. The drinks party from hell begins when Beverly and estate agent husband Laurence invite round new neighbours, Tony and Ange, along with nervous divorcee Sue, jittery about the bash her teenage daughter, Abigail, is throwing up the road. As that party reportedly gets out of hand, this one too descends into chaos, and comedy, drama and tragedy combine into an iconic piece of theatre. Hilarious and horribly compelling, this is an undisputed classic. Amanda Abbington is best-known for playing Mary Morstan in Sherlock, Miss Mardle in Mr Selfridge and DS Jo Moffat in Cuffs. She is joined by Ben Caplan (Call the Midwife, Sunny Afternoon), Rose Keegan (Stepping Out, Bedroom Farce), Charlotte Mills (Jerusalem) and Ciarán Owens (Mad World My Masters). |8|

Alistair Beaton’s new razor-sharp black comedy takes us to an idyllic English village threatened by an energy company intent on drilling for shale gas. Elizabeth is a retired academic who finds herself transformed from obedient citizen to angry protestor. While her increasingly grumpy husband longs for the quiet life, Elizabeth soars to fame via social media. Desperate to get planning permission, hard-nosed PR men team up with a corrupt local councillor to persuade the villagers that fracking is a good thing. goldilocks & the three bears a ballet for children

Goldilocks is a mischievous little girl with hair as bright as gold. Always on the look-out for an adventure, one day her curiosity leads her to a house full of many surprises. With a family of friendly bears, a beautiful blue bird and bowls of delicious porridge, this ballet is just right!

‘THE BEST DANCE ACTORS IN THE WORLD’ DANCE EUROPE

Divided by a barbed wire fence, Bruno doesn’t understand anything about where Shmuel lives, or who he is. To him, he’s just a new friend – a boy wearing a pair of striped pyjamas. As this unlikely friendship blossoms against the backdrop of the unthinkable events of World War II, Bruno’s childlike curiosity leads this poignant story to a devastating conclusion. The UK’s foremost narrative ballet company, Northern Ballet, present this heartbreaking story through dance for the very first time. Based upon The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne by special arrangement with Miramax. We advise parental/guardian guidance for this production, with themes more suitable for secondary school children onwards.

With sell-out performances and hugely successful CBeebies TV adaptations, including Ugly Duckling and Tortoise & the Hare, Northern Ballet’s Short Ballets for Small People are not to be missed. TUESDAY – WEDNESDAY 7.30PM TICKETS FROM £12.40

Set amidst the social turbulence of 60’s London, the play follows the story of Suzy, a blind woman who, left alone in her apartment, becomes embroiled with a group of conmen hatching an elaborate scam. As the tension notches up, Suzy is left to fend for herself but with the phone line cut dead and the house plunged into darkness, can Suzy outwit the murderous visitors? Wait Until Dark, made into a film starring Audrey Hepburn in 1967, is often ranked as one of the top 100 scariest films of all time and this exciting new production reclaims it for the stage.

Following its critically acclaimed West End revival at the Haymarket, Alan Ayckbourn’s hilarious tale of matrimonial mishaps and London’s funniest comedy of 2016 embarks on a national tour. As Bob and Fiona clumsily try to cover up their affair, their spouses’ intervention only adds to the confusion. William and Mary Featherstone become hopelessly stuck in the middle, falsely accused of adultery and with no idea as to how they’ve become involved. The plot culminates in two disastrous dinner parties on successive nights, shown at the same time, after which the future of all three couples seems in jeopardy… The star cast includes leading stage and TV actor Robert Daws, best known for the hit series’ The Royal, Outside Edge and Roger Roger opposite Caroline Langrishe who starred in Lovejoy, Holby City and Judge John Deed, Matthew Cottle from the Bafta-nominated Game On who transfers direct from the West End production and Sara Crowe, whose West End credits include Alan Ayckbourn’s Absurd Person Singular and The Constant Wife but perhaps is best known for her role in the popular film Four Weddings and a Funeral.
