Or is he going to see her head off down the aisle with Wall Street bad boy Glenn (Ray Quinn: X Factor, Dancing On Ice)? THREE TRAGIC LOVE STORIES. TWO TIMELESS CLASSICS. ONE HIDDEN GEM. This Spring, Welsh National Opera brings you some of the most poignant love stories ever told, with some of the greatest music ever written. Their Love’s Poisoned Chalice Season offers three operas on the themes of love, loss, jealousy and heartbreak. La bohème will transport you to bohemian Paris where Rodolfo, a penniless poet, and Mimì, a seamstress, are head over heels in love. But in a world of turmoil and poverty, their hopes and dreams are crushed, and their passionate romance comes to a tragic end. Joachim Herz’s iconic production of Madam Butterfly returns for limited performances in Spring 2017. Each scene in this classic staging looks like a sepia photograph through which we glimpse a vanished world. The story of Butterfly sees Eastern and Western cultures collide with moving consequences. Le Vin Herbé tells the story of two lovers who drink a spiked potion and fall hopelessly in love. Their affair inevitably leads to tragedy.

| 18 |

Written by Willy Russell, the legendary Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of twins who, separated at birth, grow up on opposite sides of the tracks, only to meet again with fateful consequences. Few musicals have received quite such acclaim as the multi award-winning Blood Brothers. Bill Kenwright’s production surpassed 10,000 performances in London’s West End, one of only three musicals ever to achieve that milestone. It has been affectionately christened the ‘STANDING OVATION MUSICAL ’, as inevitably it ‘BRINGS THE AUDIENCE CHEERING TO ITS FEET AND ROARING ITS APPROVAL’ – The Daily Mail. Lyn Paul returns to the iconic role she has played many times in the West End, in fact she was the show’s final Mrs Johnstone when it closed at The Pheonix Theatre in 2012. Lyn also starred in Bill Kenwright’s tour of Cabaret with Will Young in 2013 and rose to fame as a member of the pop group New Seekers whose numerous number one hits include I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing which sold over 20 million copies. The superb score includes Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

TUE – SAT 7.30PM (WED, THU & SAT MATS 2.30PM)

Georges and the dazzling drag artiste Albin, star of La Cage aux Folles, live an idyllic existence in the heart of St Tropez. But behind the curtains of this sparkling extravaganza, all may be about to change. Georges’ son Jean-Michel announces his engagement to the daughter of a notorious right-wing politician determined to close down the local colourful night-life. Drama and hilarity ensue when a meeting of the parents forces them to cover up their vibrant lifestyle. Will Albin be able to play the role of his life to ensure that Jean-Michel can marry his love? Bill Kenwright presents a spectacular new version of the much loved musical with West End star John Partridge as Albin and Broadway leading man Adrian Zmed as Georges. John’s extensive theatre credits boast the West End productions of A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, Cats, Starlight Express and Chicago, but perhaps he is best known for playing the loveable Christian in BBC’s EastEnders and as a judge on TV’s Over The Rainbow. Adrian’s Broadway credits include Blood Brothers, Grease and Falsettos and on television he is best loved as Officer Vince Romano in the hit TV show T.J. Hooker and on the big screen as Johnny in Grease 2.

When eccentric toymaker Dr Coppélius leaves his greatest creation, the doll Coppélia, on his workshop balcony she’s soon causing quite a stir in the village. Lovers Franz and Swanilda both want to find out what is going on; but things are even stranger than they seem. With a wild mix of abracadabra, comic chaos is unleashed as Dr Coppélius tries to bring Coppélia to life and Swanilda tries to stop him. A timeless classic from the golden age of classical ballet, Coppélia, with its lyrical, romantic music, stands alongside such classics as Swan Lake and The Sleeping Beauty as one of the great works of the 19th century. Performed with live music from the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Photo: Bill Cooper.
