WELCOME TO THE REGENT THEATRE, STOKE-ON-TRENT AND YOUR NEW STYLE WHAT’S ON GUIDE...

Each year The Regent Theatre is host to the Creative Learning team’s annual dance festival, one of the biggest community dance events in Staffordshire. The festival continues to be a fantastic platform to celebrate talent and raise the aspirations of young people. In 2017 we worked with 45 dance companies, invited 5 community organisations to perform and had over 1,000 young people dancing on stage!

‘Thank you to all the team for providing such a fabulous opportunity for our pupils to experience Theatre life and develop their dance skills. This is an opportunity for children to make life memories and be proud of their achievements.’ Blythe Bridge Dance Academy 2016.

We have a fantastic bumper season of shows coming up between now and September – and we’re delighted to welcome Wendi Peters (Coronation St) and the West End’s Kerry Ellis (Wicked) as they will both be performing in the brand-new production of Wonderland, which makes its UK and European premiere this year.

‘AN INSPIRATIONAL MUSICAL’ NEW YORK TIMES

‘ONE INSANELY CATCHY SONG AFTER ANOTHER’ TAMPA BAY TIMES

We are also excited to be fully backing Stoke-on-Trent’s bid for City of Culture 2021. As Stoke-on-Trent’s largest entertainment venues, we are completely behind the campaign, which launched officially in January. More information on the bid can be found at www.sot2021.com - and the official decision will be taken in December 2017. Those who follow us on Instagram will have seen our Salfordborn Marketing and Communications Manager Emma Leech give her Emma Leech reasons for backing the bid: ‘I am an adopted Stokie and I love living here. The city has so much to offer – from amazing West End shows at our lovely theatre, to world-renowned pottery at Emma Bridgewater. I truly feel that Stoke-on-Trent is a city on the up.’

Meet Barry Smith, our Deputy Technical Manager here at the Regent Theatre and Victoria Hall. Barry has been with us right Barry Smith from the beginning. He is backing the #sot2021 bid because ‘Culture is entertainment and the more entertainment we can offer people in the city, the better!’

In 1964, a new phenomenon exploded onto the dingy British streets. It was the essence of all that was cool. It was Mod. Mods stuck two fingers up at the class-ridden society and its dull redundant culture. They were working-class free spirits who rode sexy streamlined Italian Vespas or Lambrettas. The sharpest Mod of all was known as a ‘FACE’. The Small Faces encapsulated all that is Mod, a unique blend of taste and testosterone, neat, clothes obsessed and street-wise. But these cult sophisticates shared another passion, their dedication to Rhythm ‘n’ Blues. This quintessentially British ‘Mod’ Musical celebrates the unique sound of the iconic ‘60s Mod band, The Small Faces. Featuring the music of The Small Faces, including an arsenal of brilliant hits like Whatcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday, Tin Soldier, Sha La La La Lee, Itchycoo Park and of course All Or Nothing.

Divided by a barbed wire fence, Bruno doesn’t understand anything about where Shmuel lives, or who he is. To him, he’s just a new friend – a boy wearing a pair of striped pyjamas. As this unlikely friendship blossoms against the backdrop of the unthinkable events of World War II, Bruno’s childlike curiosity leads this poignant story to a devastating conclusion. The UK’s foremost narrative ballet company, Northern Ballet, present this heartbreaking story through dance for the very first time. Based upon The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne by special arrangement with Miramax. THREE TALES OF LOVE AND THE GROOVY LITTLE PLACE IT ALL BEGAN Three broken hearts, one Soho hang-out, and the only man who could ever help them... Welcome to the Preacher Man, the swinging Soho joint where the kids used to dance the night away and dared to dream of love, while the legendary owner, The Preacher Man himself, dispensed advice to cure the loneliest of hearts. Only, that was a long time ago and all that remains are the memories, the stories and the myths. Until now, that is, as three random strangers, generations apart but all in need of help with their hopeless love lives, are inexplicably drawn to the site of the original venue. Directed and choreographed by Strictly Come Dancing’s Craig Revel Horwood and featuring the greatest hits of Dusty Springfield, this sparklingly funny and sweetly touching new musical play by internationally-renowned writer Warner Brown will have you laughing, crying and singing your heart out to some of the greatest songs ever written. So you know just what to do with yourself – book your tickets now! | 26 |

THE CARPENTERS STORY

THE BEE GEES STORY

A unique, totally live tribute to the Bee Gees with a fantastic show, featuring incredible songs from over four decades. The story unfolds through their music of classic hits and dance floor favourites.

THE TRIBUTE SHOW

A 5 star homage to the greatest movie soundtrack of all time. The original concert celebration of the iconic music from the multi-award winning soundtrack to Dirty Dancing. STARRING DENNIS LOCORRIERE

Milton Jones is Out There. No, really out there and this time he hasn’t just forgotten his keys. He’s holding up the mirror of truth to society, and he can see right through it, which means it’s probably just a window. In his brand new show he’ll be talking about his life so far – the ups, the downs and why buying his own see-saw was the best decision he ever made.

WHITNEY QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

Following sell-out performances in 2016, the Timeless UK tour has been extended into 2017 due to overwhelming public demand! Reviving special memories with classics such as Sylvia’s Mother, Sexy Eyes, A Little Bit More, When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman, The Cover Of Rolling Stone and Queen Of The Silver Dollar, don’t miss seeing Dr Hook live!

This award-winning production features the stunning vocals of international star Claire Furley as Karen Carpenter, and lavish arrangements from live musicians.
