Welcome to the Spring 2015 Schools Newsletter! Dedicated to igniting imaginations and inspiring innovative ways of maximising your student’s learning, our Creative Learning department provides educational and arts activities, events and projects, inspired by and often in conjunction with the productions on our stage, with the aim to provide schools with a variety of ways of engaging with professional theatre. From pre-school to university, we offer a diverse range of resources, including workshops, education packs, talks, tours and more, all to support your learning needs.

Winner of seven 2013 Olivier Awards, this highly acclaimed National Theatre production, brings its first ever nationwide tour to Sunderland for a limited 8 performances. Based on the award-winning novel by Mark Haddon, adapted by Simon Stephens and directed by Marianne Elliott, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a thrilling new stage play from the National Theatre. Page to Stage From Rehearsal Room to English ClassRoom Wed 12 Aug, 11am-12.30pm, £3 per person Available throughout the 2015/2016 academic year, for groups of up to 25 and priced £160 per group Facilitated by members of the Curious Company (For groups 25+ call for details). and National Theatre Learning, this event will provide audiences with a deeper insight into how a novel, whose extraordinary central character sees the world in his own unique way, can be brought to life on stage.

A practical workshop using the BBC online Curious Incident resources, which give first hand insight into the National Theatre teams’ creative process. Particularly suited to KS3/KS4 English students.

Fly through the air, get lost at Swindon station and uncover the everyday moments in Christopher’s world. A Frantic practitioner will visit your school or venue to deliver a minimum 2 hour or maximum 4 hour workshop.

A typical workshop will include: • • • •

A thorough warm up (approx 30 mins) Team building and trust exercises Creative tasks and devising processes from the rehearsal room of Curious Incident A cool down, reflection and questions

National Theatre wants to connect with young people who are interested in all aspects of theatre, from those who want to perform and equally those who are interested in the many other roles needed to bring a stage production to life. In partnership with Creative & Cultural Skills, National Theatre Learning and the design team from this acclaimed production are setting an exciting new Design Challenge for students.
