PINERO’S CLASSIC COMEDY This spring, Theatre Royal Brighton Productions a new national theatre company under the helm of Chris Luscombe along with Maria Aitken and Philip Franks - are proud to present its inaugural production of Dandy Dick. Written in Brighton in 1887, Dandy Dick stars Olivier Award-winner Patricia Hodge, whose career spans film (Betrayal, Behind Enemy Lines), theatre (Noises Off, Calendar Girls) and television (a BAFTA nomination for Hotel du Lac, Mrs Thatcher in The Falklands Play and, of course, Miranda). Joining Patricia is Nicholas Le Prevost, whose many theatre credits include My Fair Lady at the National Theatre, for which he was nominated for an Olivier Award. Following his huge success with The Madness of George III in the West End, the fabulous cast of comic actors will be directed by Christopher Luscombe.
A VICAR, HIS SISTER AND A RUNAWAY HORSE!
Dandy Dick tells the hilarious story of the Very Reverend Augustin Jedd, a pillar of Victorian respectability, who preaches regularly against the evils of the Turf. But a visit from his tearaway sister, herself an habitual gambler, leads him to risk all at the races. Mayhem ensues with mistaken identity, illicit cookery and a runaway horse . . .

ROUGH JUSTICE
‘ROUGH JUSTICE UNFOLDS WITH DELIBERATE ELEGANCE, TEASING OUT THE STORYLINE AND ITS CHARACTERS UNTIL THE AUDIENCE – GIVEN THE TASK OF JURY – IS UTTERLY ABSORBED’ DAILY TELEGRAPH
The author of the triumphant comedy There’s a Girl in My Soup, brings us a very different treat - a murder story, a courtroom drama, a suspenseful thriller. Television journalist James Highwood has made his career out of challenging the British Justice system in his documentary programmes. Now, suddenly, it is him who is challenged when he is brought to court on a charge of murder. Highwood admits the killing but perversely chooses to defend himself, pushing the tolerance of the court to its limits and framing his defence in terms calculated to incense the judge. Tom Conti is brilliantly suited to the part of James Highwood in this gripping courtroom drama. With more than its share of surprising twists and turns, it will keep you guessing until the very end - not to be missed! 6

A classic. A landmark. A legend. The Mousetrap is famous around the world as being the longest running show of any kind in the history of theatre with almost 25,000 performances it’s a play to be proud of. And to celebrate 60 incredible years on stage, it’s going on tour for the first time, with a star cast to give you a once in a life-time opportunity to see this masterpiece here in Glasgow. The scene is set when a group of people gathered in a country house cut off by the snow discover, to their horror, that there is a murderer in their midst. Who can it be? One by one the suspicious characters reveal their sordid pasts until at the last, nerve-shredding moment the identity and the motives are finally revealed. In her own inimitable style, Dame Agatha Christie has created an atmosphere of shuddering suspense and a brilliantly intricate plot where murder lurks around every corner. www.MousetrapOnTour.com

‘A SLICK, ENERGETIC STAGING. A TREMENDOUS PRODUCTION’ ‘WHAT EMERGES, IN THE END, IS A TREMENDOUSLY SUCCESSFUL PIECE OF POPULAR THEATRE, NOT SUBTLE, BUT PACEY, PROFESSIONAL AND FULL OF PASSION’ THE SCOTSMAN ON THE SILVER DARLINGS
DIRECTED BY KENNY IRELAND DESIGNED BY HAYDEN GRIFFIN MUSIC BY JOHN KEILTY The Cone Gatherers is a haunting tale of good versus evil, demonstrating the destructive power of envy and prejudice. This classic Scottish novel tells the tale of two brothers gathering cones in a forest on a Scottish estate in order to replenish the trees felled for the war effort. Neil, and his hunchbacked brother Calum, lead happy and contented lives in these beautiful surroundings, completely detached from the destruction of the Second World War. However, their innocence and happiness is threatened by the dark, obsessive hatred of Duror, the gamekeeper and the deep prejudices of the class system of the time. The obsessions of Duror grow stronger, building to a devastating climax. Robin Jenkins’ greatest novel is brought to life by the creative team behind HMT’s two critically-acclaimed productions, Sunset Song and The Silver Darlings, in a brand new adaptation by Scottish dramatist Peter Arnott.

Following a critically acclaimed and sell out West End season, the celebrated Ealing comedy, The Ladykillers, comes to life on stage in a hilarious and thrilling new adaption by Graham Linehan (Father Ted, The IT Crowd) and directed by Sean Foley (The Play What I Wrote). Starring Michele Dotrice (Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em), Shaun Williamson (Extras and EastEnders) and Clive Mantle (Casualty and The Vicar of Dibley). The Ladykillers is a classic black comedy; a sweet little old lady, alone in her house, is pitted against a gang of criminal misfits who will stop at nothing… Posing as amateur musicians, Professor Marcus and his gang rent rooms in the lopsided house of sweet but strict Mrs Wilberforce. The villains plot to involve her unwittingly in Marcus’ brilliantly conceived heist job. The police are left stumped, but Mrs Wilberforce becomes wise to their ruse and Marcus concludes that there is only one way to keep the old lady quiet. With only her parrot, General Gordon, to help her, Mrs W. is alone with five desperate men. But who will be forced to face the music? 16

ADAPTED BY STEPHEN MALLATRATT FROM THE NOVEL BY SUSAN HILL Everybody in the theatre can hear you scream! Unanimously acclaimed by the critics, Stephen Mallatratt’s stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s best selling novel combines the power and intensity of live theatre with a cinematic quality inspired by the world of film noir. It is a formula that provides audiences with an evening of unremitting drama as they are transported into a terrifying and ghostly world. A lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over him and his family by the spectre of a ‘Woman in Black’, engages a sceptical young actor to help him tell his terrifying story and exorcise the fear that grips his soul. It all begins innocently enough, but as they reach further into his darkest memories the borders between make believe and reality begin to blur and the flesh begins to creep... Now celebrating its 23rd year in the West End, over 7 million people have lived to tell the tale of one of the most chilling and successful theatre events ever staged.

A masterclass in unarmed stage combat, teaching the basics in how to make a stage fight believable and safe. Though the fight director on a show can bring in the moves and the weapons, this offers the basics so that every actor can walk in feeling confident. Trips, falls, grabs, holds and basic punches and slaps will give each actor the ability to pick up choreography quickly and make it as sustainable as it is exciting.
