Ruth Ann Swenson is one of America’s most brilliant coloratura sopranos. After making an auspicious debut with the Merola Program at the San Francisco Opera, her career skyrocketed to include several decades of performances at many of the world’s finest opera stages. She is loved by audiences for her lovely, creamy sound and her superb technique.

Since his triumph as the first and only American to win the Chopin International Piano Competition, Garrick Ohlsson has received accolades for his dazzling technique, spellbinding fluidity, and sheer beauty of tone. Venice Baroque Orchestra Philippe Jaroussky, counter-tenor Sun, Feb 9, 3pm

Since its founding in 1997, the Venice Baroque Orchestra has quickly become one of the world’s premier period instrument ensembles and has performed to great acclaim throughout North America, Europe, South America, Japan and Korea. An Afternoon of Opera with David Lomeli and Leah Crocetto Santa Rosa Symphony Sun, Mar 9, 3pm

These two former San Francisco Opera Adler fellows have enjoyed meteoric careers. Crocetto became an overnight sensation when she won the 2010 Metropolitan Opera audition, while Lomeli earned first place in Plácido Domingo’s vocal competition when he was only 26. Takács Quartet Sun, Oct 27, 3pm

Founded in Budapest in 1975, the Takács Quartet has been in residence at the University of Colorado Boulder for the past few decades. Their consummate artistry and exquisite, award-winning recordings place them in the top ranks of string quartets worldwide. In their Weill Hall debut, they perform works by Mozart and Dvorzák and are joined by special guests, Erika Eckert (viola) and Scott Pingel (bass). “ This is chamber music playing of overwhelming intensity...simply the best I have ever heard in concert.” – Guardian, London

Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale Handel’s Messiah Sun, Dec 15, 3pm

Few pieces are more beloved than Handel’s Messiah. Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

For more than 160 years, the Vienna Philharmonic has embodied the finest traditions of European classical music. Composers such as Bruckner, Mahler, Brahms, and Wagner, have sung its praises, and the orchestra’s revered home – the Musikverein – was an inspiration for the design of Weill Hall. This is a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s greatest orchestra. Tickets are sure to go quickly; only subscribers will be guaranteed a seat.

Deborah Voigt is one of the preeminent dramatic sopranos performing today. In 2012, she earned rave reviews for her portrayal of Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Ring Cycle at the Met, as well as her lead role in Annie Get Your Gun at the Glimmerglass Festival. She graduated from Cal State Fullerton, and got her start at the San Francisco Opera’s Merola program.

He performed a Mozart piano concerto with the Chicago Symphony when he was just 11. At 23, he was hand-picked by Miles Davis to join the jazzman’s legendary second quintet. Hancock’s towering and influential career as a pianist, composer, and bandleader includes more than five decades of pioneering jazz performances and more than sixty recordings, of which fourteen earned a Grammy Award. “ He had the sold-out crowd in the palm of his hand.” – The Oregonian

Jon Batiste and the Stay Human Band Sat, Oct 26, 7:30pm

Born in New Orleans, this young, iconic artist has quickly ignited New York’s jazz music scene where he is now based. With his voice on piano and dapper sense of style, he has wowed audiences in more than forty countries and released four CDs. Don’t miss this spirited, uplifting evening of eclectic music. “ Mr. Batiste was stunning: he played a solo in the piano’s upper region that was spare, forceful, witty, funky, imaginative, and coherent.” – The New York Times

Modeled on the Venezuelan “El Sistema,” this Brazilian youth orchestra has won the hearts of audiences throughout Europe and Latin America. In their U.S. debut tour, they perform Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major with the internationally acclaimed French pianist, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, along with music of their native Brazil. “ This orchestra is at the very tip of the powerful movement to inspire young kids through music and give them a future.” – Radio Berlin

She is part of a new generation who has reinvigorated Portugal’s fado – a style of singing that blends the timeless Portuguese folk melodies and poetry with Arabic cadences and African and Brazilian rhythms. Her passionate, charismatic performances have won her legions of fans worldwide.

This Spanish superstar began singing flamenco music with her famous father, Enrique Morente, at the age of seven. She gained her own following after her appearance on the soundtrack of Pedro Almódovar’s film, Volver. Her fourth studio album was released in 2012, reinforcing her legacy as a singer with grace, passion, and fire.
