This thesis focuses on the Karstadt Müllerstrasse - a traditional department store on Leopoldplatz, Berlin-Wedding. It was constructed in the 1970s, less than 2 Km from the Berlin Wall. Today Karstadt is on the verge of abandonment with its inward-facing spatial layout, endless deep oor plans and windowless facades, facing the mentioned challenges. This research explores the potential for repurposing Karstadt beyond its traditional retail function.

The concept of the design proposal portrays a vertical village which will accommodate three educational institutions: a primary school, a high school, and an integrated secondary school. The core idea is to create an interactive learning environment where students of all age groups reside within the same vertical village but attend separate schools.
The three school blocks, each dedicated to its respective age group, are connected by a plaza. This connected plaza acts as a forum, like a living room in a house, with its atriums that not only serve as light wells but also house gardens in the basement levels, contributing to the village's landscape. The cafeteria at the central plaza in the basement mirrors the village square, which will be the communal hub for students from all three schools. The plazas on each oor act as an extension of the village square.
The proposed design intends to promote a collective identity through shared spaces, promoting parallel learning, thus fostering a unique and interactive educational environment, acting as a village.

The site chosen for the upcoming Bauakademie is situated at Schinkeplatz, a crafted by architect Friedrich Schinkel in 1836, stands as one of the most groundbreaking aspires to function as a public forum dedicated to the advancement of education, tioning as both a building and an exhibition, it aims to embody the principles a communal space where individuals can gather and actively partake in knowledge
prestigious location in the historic centre of Berlin. The original Bauakademie, groundbreaking structures of 19th-century Berlin. The envisioned Bauakademie education, science, research, art, and culture within the domain of construction. Funcprinciples of sustainability. Embracing an open-house concept, the academy aspires to be knowledge exchange.

A double-height shared space owed throughout the whole building creating an In-between public space that maximizes connectivity and vertical communication.
A pivotal architectural innovation within the design is the introduction of a rotating core. The two L-shaped cores, housing re stairs and toilet facilities pivot at right angles on each oor, acting as a dynamic landscape for distinct spaces such as meeting rooms, o ices, lounges, seminar rooms, exhibition areas, cafés, and team collaboration spaces. This design eliminates the traditional front and back, establishing a public building with entries on all four sides.
Four community staircases, spanning from ground level to the top oor, simulate the atmosphere of a public street within the building. The strategic placement of a co-working café on the uppermost oor further ampli es this e ect. In pursuit of sustainability and zero-energy construction, the entire building, from oor slabs to columns, is crafted from timber. The use of a modular grid system ensures exibility in space utilization, complemented by removable curtain systems serving as partition walls. The new Bauakademie envisions itself as a performing art, with users acting as curators, actively designing and utilizing the space as per their needs.

The designed university o ers a platform to acknowledge the past by the involvement of present and future generations. The challenge was to accommodate a substantial program with both academic and residential facilities in a high contour site.
The design has been evolved considering two strong axis running from east west and north south. Strategically, the library, center of educational institution placed at the origin of the two axis and at the highest point of the site; keeping in mind the vision and power of knowledge. The university comprises three faculty buildings; faculty of Arts, Science and Fine Arts.
