Orchids for Beginners II

Summer Camp Registration Opens February 1 (online only)

Oncidium, Dendrobium, and Cattleya orchids are adapted to climates with intermittent rainfall and have evolved specialized strategies to conserve water. These plants require higher light levels than are found in typical homes. This class examines how to best mimic the cultural requirements of these groups of orchids at home.

Intermediate Drawing in Colored Pencil This class builds on Intro to Drawing in Colored Pencil with the rich colors and forms of the tropical world. Large drawings emphasize contours and focal points of detail. Plant materials are selected from the Garden’s greenhouses or students may choose to draw plants from home. Drawing is the foundation of visual arts, and anyone can learn its basic principles. Discover composition, proportion, shading and perspective as well as visual elements: line, value, texture, shape, and space. Students work in a variety of black and white mediums. This class is part of the Botanical Drawing Program.

Learn how to prune your trees and shrubs properly. A detailed discussion will be followed by a demonstration in the Garden. Early registration is recommended for this popular class.
