The Microbiome of the Garden

Presented by Eugenia Bone, Tuesday, May 1, 7 p.m. Eugenia Bone is a nationally known science and food writer and author whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Food & Wine, and many more. At this lecture, learn about the evolutionary history of soil, the plant/ microbe relationship, the cooperative relationship between the microbiomes of soil and plants, and what that implies in terms of plant and human health. Compare the microbiomes of plants and people, gardens and families, and in the process demonstrates that life itself is a vast conspiracy of microbes.

Domenica Marchetti will share her exploration of the many preserving traditions and techniques that Italian cooks rely on to conserve fresh produce and specialty foods. Italian cookbook author Domenica Marchetti will discuss the research for her most recent book, “Preserving Italy,” and the food artisans she met along the way. Domenica graduated from the Columbia School of Journalism and worked at several newspapers before becoming an enthusiastic food writer and cookbook author of seven titles focused on the delightful cuisine of Italy.
