young+tanner general dentistry” est. 1971

…is a well-established practice that was originally started by Dr. Ken Young & is located in East Cobb county Georgia. Ken & his family were featured on the cover of the Georgia Dental Association magazine in 1998 while he was president of the GDA & at that time, both of his kids were in Dental school. Julie Young Tanner had been preparing to teach kindergarten then considered pediatric dentistry. But while working on adults in dental school, and assisting during the summers in her father’s office, she got hooked. “I enjoyed helping people like their smile and having their pain relieved,” she said. “I went from architecture to pre-dentistry,” Jason Young said. “The architecture was still working with your hands, but I wanted to be more with people. Architecture was too much individual. I lived by myself when I was doing that, and it was just really quiet.” Since the tall, blue-eyed blonde-haired brother and sister got along well enough to live together at the school where their parents met, they figured they could manage to work together. “That’s how we knew we could do it,” Dr. Tanner said. “We have a close family relationship. Our family eats together every Sunday and now every day at lunch time.” As this latest location & new office was taking shape, this close family has was also going thru a difficult emotional time… “Dr. Ken Young went home to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on August 19, 2013. The impact of his love for his family & his love of dentistry continues on in the memories of the many people he touched”. From those early years of a “Family Dental Practice” taking shape until this most recent, relocating the practice to its 5th location… the focus of the practice has always been on delivering quality dentistry & developing lasting relationships with patients.

We recently spoke with Julie & Jason and asked them a few questions about their experiences relocating the practice …

What are your patients saying about your new office? Our patients love the new office. Always good reviews! We have gotten comments that it was time we made the update. They really like the paint colors and décor on the inside and the nice covered porch on the front of the building. Patients are even asking for the color & material information! Everyone is very impressed. The new office is very efficient and we love that our patients are relaxed and comfortable.

...delivering quality dentistry & developing lasting relationsips. How has your new office helped with marketing your practice? We really haven’t done any traditional marketing. We only sent out a mailer to all our current patients with the old logo at the old location on the map and the new logo at the new location on the map. It has been a smooth transition so far for existing patients. The “new look” of the office, inside & out, has definately been our best marketing… the expenses of the move are definately paying off!

What were some obstacles when planning your new office and how did you overcome them? From the time we started looking at locations that would fit our needs we discovered early on that the real estate side was frustrating. We would put offers down and have design plans drawn only to get a call that we lost the space. We ended up looking for about 2 years and we had six or seven different renderings drawn, before we found our final location. We are so thankful that Atlanta Design carried us through. I was so glad that I had Gary Lowery’s cell phone number! There were so many times that I called during that “hard phase” to discuss different locations, finances, designs, or real-estate negotiations. We had so many meetings to look at different locations & to talking about the different aspects of each option. We are so glad we were in your hands!

Are you seeing more new patients since moving into your new office? The flow of new patients has increased significantly. We think it’s close to 40% compared to the old location. Most are patient referrals. However, we actually had a walk-in during the first three months that had not been referred. At our old location we didn’t have a walk-in like that in over twenty years! She came in to the office based on our location and the outside presentation of the new building. We are so pleased with how the exterior of the building turned out, it’s beautiful!

Feature Article Has productivity increased since the design of your new office? It has!... we are so busy that my brother and I barely have time to do our weekly lunch meeting like we always used to at the old location. We were also able to share with our staff that our practice is thriving. Production is up over 10% since we made the move. It’s been wonderful! Again, the investment to change locations and update our practice has been well worth it...a lucrative investment!

Describe the process of moving into your new office? Atlanta Dental was a huge help moving and setting up the new equipment. I’ll never forget driving by our new office and seeing all those Atlanta Dental vans in the parking lot! It was overwhelming all the support we got from Atlanta Dental. They work together as a team and they all knew what they were doing. They knew that we just wanted to be the Dentists in the back and they allowed us to do that. The move was smooth and seamless and we are very blessed to have worked with such great people, such as Gary Lowery, Brian Stallings, Deborah Brunner, and all the wonderful guys on the installation team, thank you!

Dr. Kenneth Young was a graduate of Ohio State University College of Dentistry in June 1967. In 1971, when Ken began his private practice in Marietta, Ga. Ken was a member of North Point Community Church and was active in the Georgia Dental Association for forty years serving as president in 1998-1999. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Hinman Dental Society, and past president of the Northwest Dental District Society. He was elected to be a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists, and the American College of General Dentistry, and awarded Master of the American College of General Dentistry. Dr. Ken Young…“I started in 1971 in the “smallest office in the country” I began specializing in complex work, such as implant, restoratives and reconstruction. Between teasing and reminiscing, Ken Young turned serious. “It has been a real blessing to have had the friendships and the gratitude of my patients….but having my daughter and son come in the practice with me is the greatest honor of all.”

Thank You!... Julie , Jason , & Ken for allowing our team to be a part of your team. We’re very proud of the final result & know your new office will serve you well for years to come . Who knows…there may be a new generation of dentist growing up in your “Dental Family”? - Atlanta Design Associates Dental Explorer | Four th Quar ter 2014
