portrait of an AGS Graduate
At AGS, we teach girls to be world-class creative problem solvers. We do it by integrating big-picture thinking, high expectations, and leading-edge technologies. We do it using proven and emerging educational techniques tailored to how girls learn. We do it because we are—more than any other school in Atlanta—purposely built to provide the academic, social and environmental advantages girls need.
We understand how girls think, feel, strive, and succeed. We create brave young women—each unique, each an individual, each an emerging leader.
We are Atlanta Girls’ School. Come join us.

Our graduates are characterized by:
Strengths of Character AGS students graduate with the ability to lead and work with others. They learn to balance their independence and willingness to take risks with compassion, honesty, and integrity. More than anything else, students need strengths of character to grow to become responsible individuals as well as the family and community members the world needs. Knowledge The nature of what today’s students need to know and understand as they graduate is changing at an ever-increasing rate. AGS not only provides girls with the foundation that they will need, but also equips students with the ability to

apply that knowledge to new situations. Skills Strong communication, clear thinking, creative and confident problem solving—AGS graduates have the skills that allow them to apply their knowledge and engage the strengths of others. They also have the ability to respond to new ideas with wonder, humor, and flexibility. An AGS education is based on a highly purposeful vision of what a student should be upon graduation. How Girls Learn Research in the last twenty years has taught us that boys and girls learn in fundamentally different ways. AGS uses the knowledge of these differences both inside and outside the classroom to assure that all aspects of the learning environment are right for girls.
Leading Technology Ever “tweet” about a Virginia Woolf novel? Or measure the slope of stairs with an iPod? Technology at AGS isn’t confined to a computer lab or the media center. It’s part of the classroom every day.

Girls process information using more disperse areas of the brain than boys do, and they approach problems using a variety of perspectives and considerations.
A Student-Focused Education The nurturing, student-focused, exploratory culture of the middle school classroom at AGS successfully launches students into a demanding, exciting, creative set of courses at the upper school level. Free to try new things and to find their voices in middle school, our students embrace high expectations and discover their passions as they move through upper school. As a result, our students develop focus and passion, becoming strong individuals and independent thinkers.

Education for the Development of Leadership and Service One of AGS’ signature programs, EDLS teaches girls financial literacy, global responsibility, public speaking, personal wellness, community awareness, and much more. Students develop strengths of character, skills, and knowledge beyond the classroom.
A Girls’ School Culture AGS offers an environment where girls can be themselves as they discover their own leadership style. Here, expectations about appearance and behavior aren’t dictated by the presence of boys. Instead, our girls have the space and the time to figure out who they are on their terms and build the confidence to be healthy risktakers and to take on the world.
We’ve made internships a critical part of EDLS so that our students not only understand the needs of the community but also gain professional and life skills. These internships are intended to be true work experiences.
Sports Numerous studies show that girls who participate in sports have higher grades, better school attendance, and greater selfassurance. At AGS, over 80 percent of our students play at least one sport. With our no-cut policy in middle school, every girl can test herself and benefit from the enduring lessons of sports.
