We like it when girls are admitted to UVA, Scripps, Williams, and Princeton,
but we are satisfied only when a student goes to the school that is right for her.

WHY A GIRLS’ SCHOOL?
WHY ATLANTA GIRLS’ SCHOOL? In a world becoming exponentially more complex, our girls will face challenges that cannot be solved with traditional methods alone. They will need to be curious, creative, collaborative, and confident. At AGS, we teach girls to be world-class creative problem solvers. Our curriculum and culture are based on a distinct vision of what girls must learn individually and collectively to become thoughtful and capable leaders. We achieve this by using proven and emerging educational techniques tailored to how girls learn, integrating big-picture thinking, high expectations, and leading-edge technologies. More than any other school in Atlanta, AGS is purposefully built to provide the academic, social, and environmental advantages girls need.
HERITAGE
The benefits of single-gender education have been wellknown for generations. But brain research conducted just over the last twenty years has revealed new insights into how we think and learn and view the world. There are indeed differences in male and female learning—in how information is processed, for example, or the ages at which key brain structures develop and mature. AGS uses this knowledge both inside and outside the classroom to insure that all aspects of the learning environment are right for girls.
In an all-girls’ atmosphere, each student is expected to pay attention, participate, and excel—in every class and every subject. Such high standards are borne out in the performance and future plans of alumnae. • Girls who attend single-sex schools outscore their co-ed counterparts on the SAT by an average of 28 to 43 points. • Three times as many alumnae of single-sex schools plan to become engineers. • Girls’ school students spend more hours a week doing homework, attending study groups, tutoring others, and working with their teachers than co-ed school students.
FAST FACTS • There are 187 independent girls’ schools in the US. • The first girls’ school was founded in 1746. • A third of female corporate board members of Fortune 500 companies went to girls’ schools.
CONFIDENCE
INNOVATION
AGS uses innovation— teaching methods and programs designed specifically for girls—that instills the knowledge, skills, and strengths of character needed for tomorrow.

Education for the Development of Leadership & Service -a signature program at AGS EDLS is a service and leadership program that spans all grades, providing hands-on experiences in service and philanthropy. Through EDLS, we work with students to help them identify those areas of public service they wish to have as part of their lives on a long-term basis. In grades 11 and 12, the girls have community placements and integrate their service projects back into the classroom. Each senior culminates her AGS experience with a capstone project of her own design and presents her work to the school community. Students enjoy further opportunities to learn through required travel experiences tied to global service and the curriculum. In addition, AGS offers meaningful and authentic internships across Atlanta, in every setting imaginable—from the emergency room at Grady Hospital to the Woodruff Arts Center.
VISITING ATLANTA GIRLS’ SCHOOL
APPLYING TO ATLANTA GIRLS’ SCHOOL
AGS is the best place for girls; come for a visit and we’ll show you why. There are many ways to learn about AGS: family tours, admission teas, open house, student shadow days as well as chatting with current students and parents. Here’s a brief overview to help you plan your AGS visit. Open House Held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 13 AGS Admission Open House is the most comprehensive look at the AGS program, best practices for educating girls, and important facts about adolescent girls’ development. There are separate parent and student programs, which include an introduction to single-gender education, class demonstrations, department presentations, and panel discussions. We invite girls in grades 3 and above and their parents to join us for this special event. We invite you to register for Open House here: Admission Tea and Tour Held at 9am on October 7, December 2, January 6, February 3, and March 2 You will begin your morning having tea (or coffee) with our Head of School, Academic Dean, Dean of Students, Director of Admission, AGS teachers, and AGS parents. We will share with you the AGS Mission and Portrait of an AGS Graduate as well as the compelling reasons why girls learn best in an all-girls’ environment. Next there is a group tour, led by an AGS student ambassador, and the morning concludes with an optional opportunity for one-on-one Q&A with AGS staff. Parents of girls of application age or younger are invited to attend. Register now for a tea date here: Student Shadow Days Scheduled by appointment: from 9am-3pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, October-April We hear from girls that the best way to get a feel for the unique experience of an all-girls’ school is to try it out, so we encourage all girls interested in applying to join us for a shadow day. We invite girls in grades 5 and above to attend a
day of classes, hosted by an AGS student in either the grade to which they are applying or their current grade. Beginning October 5, 2011 through April 1, 2012, student shadow days are offered Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:00am – 3:00pm. Please contact AGS admissions at 404.604.2804 or by email to reserve your daughter’s shadow day. Watch a video about shadow days here: During her visit, your daughter will be given an assignment to “tweet” about her shadow day experience on an iTouch. See what the girls are saying here: Family Tours Scheduled by appointment: Mondays at 1:15pm, Wednesdays at 9:15am, Thursdays at 10:15am, and Fridays at 12:15pm On a family tour, you are guided by a student ambassador— visiting classes and meeting deans, teachers, staff, and students—followed by time to chat with the Director of Admission about your daughter and your goals for her experience at AGS. Please contact AGS admissions at 404.604.2804 or by email to schedule a date for your family tour. Dads’ Breakfast Forum: What Every Dad Needs to Know About an All-Girls’ Education Held at 7:30am on January 20 Join a panel of AGS Dads for a breakfast session on Friday, January 20, at 7:30am for an opportunity to focus on issues most prevalent on a father’s mind. The goal is for all dads to leave with a clear vision of the value of an all-girls’ education. Reserve your space now here:
