With summer fast approaching, you may not have a family vacation planned yet. Here are three places full of adventure and within an easy drive from Atlanta. n Reconnect at the Lake
Nestled in the Northeast Georgia Mountains, Towns County offers everything families are looking for in a fun vacation. Lake Chatuge provides endless opportunity for families to reconnect, with fishing, kayaking, boating and swimming off the dock. The area has close-by hiking adventures to numerous waterfalls, and mountain views from the highest point in Georgia. Eat at family-owned restaurants serving hometown food and shop for local art, home décor and more. Looking for where to stay? Brasstown Valley Resort offers horseback riding, an indoor pool and hiking trails. On this vacation, you can step back to simpler times, have outdoor adventures and relax around a campfire telling stories and eating s’mores. golakechatuge.com; 706-896-4966.
n Outdoor Adventure on the River With the perfect mix of whitewater rafting, zip lining and other outdoor adventures, matched with unique yurt or cabin lodging, there will be plenty of connection time for family and friends while visiting. With more locations than any other outfitter in the Southeast, Wildwater Adventure Centers has been trailblazing fun in the Blue Ridge and Smoky Mountains since 1971. Are you looking for big adventure? Check out the wild and scenic Chattooga River, with steep drops through a wild gorge, or the exciting class III and IV waves of the Ocoee River. Looking for family-friendly fun with lots of splashy waves? Check out our Nantahala and Pigeon River trips. wildwaterrafting.com; 866-319-8870.
