The global supply of natural gas has seen a profound change in the last decade—led, in large part, by breakthroughs in US shale production. Ellen Scholl’s study, “The Future of Shale: The US Story and Its Implications,” analyzes the both the environmental factors and regulatory context that have aided the Texas shale boom since 2008.
Scholl examines the challenges that the shale industry faces, from activism against pipelines to the lack of appropriate infrastructure required to transport gas to market. Finally, Scholl argues that stable policies and access to capital must be combined with an ecosystem of suppliers, service companies, and other stakeholders for other regions and countries to experience their own shale revolutions.
