Created out of a passion for home brewing, El Segundo Brewing Company focuses on true California styles and strives to become the hopcentric brewery in Los Angeles. The beers brewed showcase Rob Croxall’s love of hops “and are beers that we and our friends like to drink,” he says on their website homepage. An El Segundo native, Rob attended UC Davis and earned his Professional Brewers Certificate by completing the two-month course on brewing science. In addition to 10 years of home brewing, these technical skills enable him to brew traditional, fault-free beers.

HAVANA SANDWICH COMPANY Havana Sandwich Company builds its “cubano” with a cracker-wheat specially made by a local Cuban bakery. Many of the sandwich meats are marinated in a secret mojo criollo (Creole sauce) recipe. Sandwiches are then toasted just like they are in Havana, using a sandwich press called a “Plancha,” which fuses the juicy flavors. The end result is a sandwich that satisfies like no hoagie or sub could ever hope to. Impress friends by ordering an off-menu special like the “medianoche” (midnight sandwich), a Havana favorite. Catering is also available, and free delivery is also offered within El Segundo.

ARTS, CULTURE & ENTERTAINMENT El Segundo Art Walk

Downtown’s most exciting new cultural and entertainment happening now in its third year, the El Segundo Art Walk (ESAW) takes place on the third Thursday evenings of the summer months. Creative businesses open their doors for studio tours. Each unique venue acts as a pop-up gallery displaying original works from over 50 Los Angeles-based artists. With more than 70 participating business owners and artists on hand, the El Segundo Art Walk draws well over a thousand people to Downtown and Smoky Hollow on summer third Thursdays!

With each passing year, Downtown builds its reputation as a cultural arts destination with its own art museum, a vintage movie house, several galleries and an annual Art Walk that draws huge crowds from all over the region.

ART WALK SUMMER 2017 DATES: JUNE 15 JULY 20 AUGUST 17 For more information, go to elsegundoartwalk.com

Upcoming ESMoA Experiences: NOEMA (June 11-September 3, 2017): The walls and floor of the museum will be

El Segundo Performing Arts Center

covered with an abstracted master history of diagrams (thought-drawings) and attached to diagrammatic sculptures. Dancers, interacting with the sculptures, will make scheduled performances and encourage audience participation. The experience also includes the first complete presentation of “The Temptation of the Diagram”, Matthew Ritchie’s five-year-long collaboration with the Getty Research Institute.

ESMoA Since opening in January 2013, the El Segundo Museum of Art (ESMoA) has become a Downtown landmark and hub for the burgeoning local art scene. Founded by Brian and Eva Sweeney (whose vast private collection includes works by major artists such as Claude Monet and Gustave Klimt) and curated by Bernhard Zunkeler and guest curators, this innovative non-profit “art laboratory” holds four thematic experiences (exhibits) each year with paintings, sculptures and video/ digital works from various periods and regions.

HOPE (September 17, 2017 to January 28, 2018): This experience will focus on Cuban video art – from pioneer works of the 1960s to new creative processes in the 1990s through the most recent developments, with dozens of featured artists highlighted in this installation.

The original 1927 El Segundo High School auditorium enjoyed a rebirth when the theater was remodeled in 2011. With seating for 830 people, the venue features state-of-the-art sound, video projection and lighting systems. To add to the guest experience, the house has been redecorated in a style reminiscent of the era of construction. The theater has hosted local drama productions and shows from such notable South Bay companies as the Golden State Pops Orchestra.

Old Town Music Hall Now closing in on its own 50th anniversary (originally open in 1968), the Old Town Music is renowned across the Southland as premier spot to catch a vintage movie—both from the silent and early sound eras. Silent films are accompanied by the incomparable 1925 Mighty Wurlitzer wind-powered pipe organ—allowing patrons to experience these films as audiences did before the “talkies” took over. The OTMH also hosts concerts with jazz, ragtime and other musical styles from the past.

NOTABLE NEWCOMER: Angela Elisabeth Portraits Acclaimed photographer Angela Elisabeth recently unveiled her new studio on Main Street, offering professional headshots/portraits, engagement and wedding shots, family sessions, business branding, and more. Sessions are customized and full service.
