Laguna Beach is also home to the internationally known Festival of the Arts and Pageant of The Masters. In 1932, the artists banded together and founded the Festival of Arts, a summertime event that continues to attract art lovers from around the world. The Festival, held in front of the Irvine Bowl, offers works by more than 150 artists displayed in outdoor booths. Festival organizers added a Pageant of The Masters, in which live models are used to recreate famous paintings and sculptures. Live narration and a full orchestra accompany the pageant. Today it is one of several summer events. If you prefer arts and crafts, you will not want to miss the Sawdust Festival in which artisans often live up to a less mainstream ‘alternative’ reputation. Also be sure to visit the Laguna Craft Guild’s show at the Cobblestones at Main Beach. 8

ART GALLERIES Many of Lagunaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s galleries line the 300-400 block of Coast Highway in the famous area known as Gallery Row. The Downtown and South Village areas offer a wide array of antiques, jewelry, crafts, and art creations.

LAGUNA ART MUSEUM The Laguna Art Museum showcases continually changing exhibitions by emerging, contemporary and historical artists. Just a few steps from the beach, it is the oldest cultural institution in Orange County and promotes an understanding of the role California art and artists play in developing the visual arts nationally and internationally.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES The City of Laguna Beach recognizes the importance of displaying murals and visually pleasing art pieces throughout the city, which creates a sense of pride in the community and improves the quality of life for its residents.
